We are going with a double shot of fun with two digital short posts today. The first one is The Kindly Stop Café brought to us by Stone House Ink. The other digital short we have is a self-published work by Julie
Ann Weinstein. I need to stay focused here. Mark Maciejewski has put together a
very compact, concise, and moving narrative in The Kindly Stop Café. It really
hits the mark and then some. To be honest with you, I am still thinking about
it. I read it a few days ago; that is saying something for it.
Here is the blurb from Smashwords that describes this 5700 word firecracker: ”Family tragedies from the past and present dominate Nick’s life. Just when he thinks he cannot go
on, the mysterious “Kindly Stop Café” appears on the road ahead. Come on in.
Sit wherever you’d like. We’ve prepared something special just for you… Includes
a bonus Digital Short "The Spider and the Chandelier"
The bonus material is nice; I am always a sucker for that. It is a nice feeling getting two for one at .99 cents, which is a bargain anytime. Maciejewski right from the beginning paragraph grabbed me. He was able
to immerse me in his narrative by using a variety of rich words and creating
emotional images in my mind that have stayed with me. The read on the digital
short was for me, a quick and heavy hitting read. Family tragedy, personal hurt
and anguish on a variety of fronts are carried through this story with class
and a motivation that comes across as heartfelt. I feel fortunate to have had
the read.
The Kindly Stop Café is up there with my favorite digital shorts right now. I am going to say at the least it is going to be in the top ten list I am going to drop in the beginning of December. StoneHouse Ink is a
power house when it comes to talented authors. Mark Maciejewski has put out a
narrative that will stay with you for a little while. Embrace the digital
short; it has its place in your reading schedule. It fits in all the right
places, and a quality piece like this can be digested almost anywhere you go:
the train, the bus or cab, lunch & coffee break, the list is just ongoing.
A buck doesn’t go too far anymore , but by purchasing The Kindly Stop Café you
will be getting a double shot that is going to stay with you, literally and
figuratively.
Things of Note: Mark will have a new novel for kids coming out in the spring called "Molly May Mudge" They will be for 5-12 years old and will be a series all from SH Ink.
