A little about “Pretty Rita” – Twenty-five days after Hurricane Katrina, as New Orleans struggles to survive, Katrina’s big sister, Hurricane Rita (Category 5 with the lowest barometric pressure ever recorded in an Atlantic basin cyclone) strikes southwest Louisiana and eastern Texas with a terrible velocity of wind and tidal surge. NOPD Homicide Detective John Raven Beau, born and raised in Vermilion Parish, is sent home to help. His job – check the recovered bodies for any indication of foul play. It doesn’t take him long to discover a murder victim. Someone he knew as a teen-ager.
