Self-Published Sunday Rose A. Valenta Sitting On Cold Porcelain

Crafty title and even more a fun novel cover. Before I can explain my thoughts on the novel, I think it is best for me to give you some background on the author and the novel itself :

“"Political unrest… government scandal… corruption... extortion! What do all these things have in common? They are perfect targets for satire! In Sitting on Cold Porcelain, readers will find an amusing,
perceptive, and laugh-out-loud take on the state of our country and our world,
on celebrities and politicians, and all the news events that make us roll our
eyes and groan. Its satirical essays include ""Giuliani's Gaffe Could
Qualify for Political Darwin Award,"" ""Rush Limbaugh: The
Don Rickles of Radio,"" ""State of The Union 2010:
Bitch-Slapping Congress,"" “Islamic Cleric Declares Jihad on Mickey
Mouse,” “Little Egypt to Run Against Sarah Palin,” and ”Who Moved My
Mascarpone?” You will also find Rose’s hysterical consultations with her
friend, Mrs. Giordano, a South Philadelphia Malocchio (evil eye) doctor. Mrs.
Giordano bloviates in Italian and is the Italian equivalent to the ‘Numa Numa
Guy’ in front of the TV when she watches The O’Reilly Factor.”

“Rose A. Valenta is a nationally syndicated humor columnist. Her irreverent columns have been published in Associated Content, Courier Post Online, NPR, Newsday, USA TODAY, the WSJ Online, and many other local news and
radio websites. She also authors Rosie's Renegade Humor Blog. "This is the
blog for people who would be knowledgeable about current events and politics if
only politicians and news anchors didn't slant the truth. So, what else is
there to do, but share an honest laugh?" Rose regularly attends the Erma
Bombeck Writers' Workshop at the University of Dayton, is a member of the
Robert Benchley Society and the National Society of Newspaper Columnists. “

Okay with that out of the way, I think that the thing that stands out the most from of all that necessary information is in the last sentence: “Rose regularly attends the Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop…” I know I
may be dating myself in saying this , I have always enjoyed Erma Bombeck, I
have read most of her work. I will update my Goodreads “read” list after this
is posted, I haven’t done so because I didn’t want to draw any unfair
correlations between the two, each has her own style and wit, Erma/Rose. The
reason I make it a focal point is the manner in which the novel is laid out and
paced. Rose A. Valenta has compiled short, concise patches of Americana and
made a quilt that is filled with great humor that makes one take note and
pause. This is not just some type of mindless humor, but something with a
vision, texture and substance to it that is refreshing. It is kind of like an
“I was thinking that also moment”, that type of identification with the subject
matter.

If you grab this in ereader form it is perfect to have on your smartphone and read on the train, bus stop, or at your desk to get a quick pick me up. The printed version will fit most purses, briefcases, travel bags,
laptop bags without taking up much space, but easily accessible for the same
reason. I think if you have read my ramblings in the past I am going to say
something witty like: please support this author; she deserves your attention.
