Well, I've found it a humbling experience.  Mostly "I don't get no respect."  :)

 

Of course, that's not really very funny when you come to think about it. Respect for an author is linked to sales.  Probably for most people, but especially for publishers.  Fans generally think we must be making great money because they assume everybody likes what we write.

Good point about taking ourselves too seriously. When I read any author--"literary" or otherwise--gets to thinking too much of himself, or thinks he isn't being taken as seriously as he deserves, my first reaction is, "You make stuff up for a living. How seriously am I supposed to take you?"

Ha ha, that's great. And really, things will go bad at Magic Chef, too, maybe he should think about self-publishing on Amazon...
