If I was thinking ahead I would've used a pseudonym starting somewhere in the middle of the alphabet--just never thought my books would end up on store bookshelves, but starting next year they're going to--and now they'll be tucked away at the end where people will have to crouch down to find. But then again, everyone searching out your books will find mine right next to them!
No, I'm not sure; that's why I put it out there for opinions from more experienced writers. I need more input and appreciate your suggestion to join Sisters in Crime. Thanks for the tips. I appreciate your taking the time to write me.
Well, that just gives you a good excuse to write to everyone again and let us all know exactly when it will be out and where we can get a copy! I hope you have great success with it and am looking forward to reading it. Any book with that title is bound to be a good read!
Hi Elizabeth, nice to meet you and congrats on the coming publication of your first mystery. I, too, find the title intriguing as my own protag is a recovering alcoholic. As to your thoughts about joining International Thriller Writers, I'm a member and I call my books Mystery/Thrillers which works okay for me because although mine aren't spy or foreign thrillers, they probably are at least as much "suspense" as "mystery." Mine are much too gritty to be kozy's, too. My sleuth owns a parking garage and two of my three books have a high body count. Unless you write a sort of gritty Miss Marple, you probably would fit quite well at ITW. I find their main thrust is promo and they are quite helpful there. The dues went up this year to $95 or so, but for me the promo possibilities they offer probably are worth it. There wasn't a Killer Year when I joined, but I suspect it is a really good promo opportunity. Best of luck.
Hi Elizabeth - thanks for the invite, I really appreciate it. That's a fabulous title ... Death Will Get You Sober ... I love it. And I really like where you're going with your investigation of the hows and whys people don't read. A variation is the hows and whys of why people don't read crime / mystery fiction ... if I had a dollar for every time someone said to me, "Y'know, it's not really my kind of thing, but ..." I'd still be a poor man, but many dollars better off. Chat soon, Declan
Elizabeth, my wife is a therapist, too. God, the burden she bears. (and, BTW, I am a "late comer to this career as well) Congrats on the book with SMP and best of luck.
Thanks for the invitation. Some fascinating topics in your blog. Couldn't agree more about which side of 30 (40, 50, even 60) is the more interesting. In fact, isn't it time to change the cliche? Instead of 'X is the new 30' it should surely be 'X is the new 60'.

A great title for your debut novel. Thanks for the invite.
