Some say I look like a first-cousin to a cat named Frankenstein--but I dunno. What I can say about me is that I am a husband, father, and grandfather and both a fan of the mystery/detective genre, (fan for about 45 years) and an author as well. I am fifty-nine years old but the mind is trying to convince the body it is significantly younger (and the body isn't listening!) I have novel out called Murderous Passions. It's the first of a series and I'm feverishly working on the next one as we speak.
Raymond Chandler, Lindsey Davis, Ed McBain, Dashiell Hammett, Tony Hillerman, John Maddox Roberts, Erle Stanley Gardner, Robert Ludlum, Erich Von Lustbader, Rex Stout, Louis L'Amour, Daniel Boorstein, Will and Ariel Durant, Earl Derr Biggers, Agatha Christie and lots and lots more.
Movies And TV Shows I Like:
Manchurian Candidtate (original)
CSI-Miami
NCIS
Dial M for Murder
Nash Bridges
Miami Vice
Peter Gunn
Amadeus
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Magnificent Seven (original movie)
Seven Samurai
Orson Welles' The Stranger
Battlestar Galactica (newest version)
thank you BR, it was an interesting discussion.
My husband is 007 obsessed--and I don't know how many times I've seen Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace (Craig's)--don't mind though!
Love both of those films--love the new approach.
Thank you for your welcome. Personally I'm not sure I'd use bold to describe me as much as maybe a bit off in the head to wade into "the murky waters" of publishing, but regardless it is what I love, so I put everything I have into it. Just like every writer I know. :)
Thanks for your welcome. I look forward to reading your fiction. And hopefully you might be able to read mine one of these days: i just got news that a publisher friend will republish a translation of mine, which will allow me to spend at least a month writing ful time (instead of translating). Hoorah!
Hi B.R.,
Thanks very much for the welcome! I'll stop by your page and have a look round. I'm very impressed with what I've seen so far. I'd like to add you as a friend.
Mike
Thanks, BR. I tried clicking on the link to read your story, but it didn't connect. I'll keep trying. (Paste the link into Explorer?) Great CrimeSpace page!
Thanks for the welcome. New to this, obviously, but have a question for folks out there. There's a great new author (well, it's his second book) that I've picked as best Canadian mystery of the year. But the publisher is a small house in Winnipeg, Manitoba. How do I get the word out about this guy? thx, js
It's good to find a place with kindred spirits. I'm hoping to learn things to take my writing to a higher level. Of course, the main benefit is being able to communicate with people who have the same interests.
Huge Perry Mason fan here, although I do like his A.A. Fair books as well. I have a fairly complete collection of the Perry Masons, mostly the original paperbacks - sadly, though, the pages have yellowed and many have come loose from the bindings. I will attempt to 'friend' you - haven't totally figured out how the space works yet.
Hii, thank you! Just checked out your profile and webpage. Did you self-publish?
Love the music on your profile, totally stealing it!
I will read more tomorrow, I'm exhausted so I'm off to bed!
Cheers!
Thanks for the love, B.R.! I would love to be your friend! I enjoy your discussions on the forum! Good luck with your upcoming book!
I think I'm gonna go the epublish route the next time around. I'm very excited about it and so is my agent! I think it's something I'll enjoy. There's was more advantages for authors with epublishing. I don't know if you know, but I've been published twice by the "big boys" and I don't believe it's for me, for many reasons. Authors gotta do what's right for them and just because you get traditionally published doesn't mean you're gonna be happy or, it's right for you. We all have to take our own individual paths! Experiences help us to see things in many ways.
What's up BR? Ive been a little overwhelmed lately. I have several novels I need to work on and Im trying to publish myself 3 more novels on kindle and smashwords and other ebook stores. Ive given up trying to get published. Ive gone through that bullshit off and on for over twenty years. I paid an artist 250 bucks for the ebook cover you see in my pic then on the second one I was going to publish I didnt like what he came up with, we got in a dispute and I fired him. heh heh Ive never fired anyone before. Ive been fired enough times. Anyway now Im having to learn how to make my own ecovers and on and on. Whats up with you?
Ill maybe give them a jingle. Since I fired my last artist Ive been monkeying around with trying to do it myself. But I dont like it, BR, and Id much rather be writing. Ive got a lot planned. Like you Ive had computer trouble. Lost my hard drive on my laptop and paid for another and I lost my word processor. Ive been too cheap to buy another. Ive finally transferred my NOP to this desktop which still has a word processor. And on and on. I have a novel triology located in Ancient Egypt Im trying to get off the ground. Its nice to have problems though for it means Im writing. When I sold real estate I moved and hit a slack time. When business picked up and I opened a few escrows and started have problems and I realized that it felt good. Keep up the good work.
