London-based freelance journalist and editor. Also an aspiring writer. I have written a speculative thriller, Cheetah, about drugs taking over and wildly transforming sports, which won first prize in a comp run by indie publisher Iota in California last year. But no publishing break-through yet. I also review crime/thriller TV and books for Shotsmag.co.uk and have a new blog – crimetimepreview.com
Elmore Leonard, Ian Rankin, James Ellroy, JG Ballard, Arnaldur Indridason, Cormac McCarthy, Irvine Welsh and I loved Stef Penney's The Tenderness of Wolves, and many more…
Movies And TV Shows I Like:
Mad Men, The Wire, The Shield, Spongebob Squarepants, everything Hitchcock and Kubrick
Hi Robin, nice to meet a fellow ww-er here. And a fellow fan of Madmen (not to mention spongebob squarepants). I'm one of the few people who's missed out on The Wire - usually on past my bedtime!
Hi Robin
Good to meet you here. Many thanks for the support for the books and your kind words about Gallows Lane. The best of luck with your own writing.
Cheers
Brian
Robin, thanks for the invite, nice to meet you down these mean streets....
I read your GUTTED review and it blew me away, just delighted you got along with Gus so well. But, man, you're right...he does like a dram doesn't he. Clock's tickin on that liver of his.
Hey Robin, Welcome, and Good to hear you are a Felicity Young fan. I thoroughly enjoyed her Aussie debut A CERTAIN MALICE; certainly a recommended read. Still waiting to obtain copies of the subsequent ones. Indridason too is gritty and realistic and his policeman Erlendur, laconic and quite interesting as a detective. Check out the DVD named JAR CITY which is a recently filmed version of his novel.
Will look out for your reviews. Good luck and keep plugging the novel; you should at least have more inroads to it than some of us unknowns out there...
Robin,
If you're around on the 9th September, please feel free to come to the launch of my book 'Red Station' at Goldsboro Books, Cecil Court, WC2 (details are on the Events page). Wine will be available, and a lot of good chat. Adrian
thank you! i'm hardly on here anymore, but love to make new friends.
switched horror. at the moment just finishing my novel for my publisher!
Jane Eyre with vampires (and no I'm not kidding).
lovely to meet you!
Hi Robin, Thanks for welcoming me. I note you are an aspiring author and wish you luck as you will need it but promotion is far harder than the writing. Incidentally I note you are a reviewer perhaps you would like to review my latest novel: a political thriller entitled 1/1 :Jihad-Britain which is due out in the next month or so?
My e-mail is www.jack.everett@lineone.net
Any way I can help be pleased to, offered you the chance at Jihad because you would be the first in the UK to review it but busy I can understand. Cheers for now.
Thanks for your request. I had a wife once from over there, the Evesham area. (or Evasham as the locals pronounced it.) Anyway, looking forward to corresponding further.
Glad to meet you Robin. I have a couple of mysteries on Amazon. Check them out, if you're interested! They're cozy mysteries based in a small town like the one I live in.
Glad to be your friend, Robin. Yes, I'm a big admirer of P.D. James! And she has been my constant inspiration. Unfortunately I don't get over to Crimespace very often, spend most of my time on Facebook. Send you a friend request (at least I think it's you) on Facebook. http://www.mmgornell.com and http://www.mmgornell.wordpress.com.
Much success with all your literary endeavors! Madeline (M.M.) Gornell
Hi Robin, happy to make your acquaintance. Yeah, I love that Reacher guy. Hope you'll check out MY guy, New Orleans PD homicide detective Frank Renzi, in my suspense thriller ABSOLUTION.
Incidentally, tho I haven't been there for a while, I've been to London a few times and enjoyed it a lot. Great art museums and concert halls.
Oops, didn't notice you liked Kubrick. I'm a big fan of his also. Love how he uses music to accompany certain scenes ... raping to Rossini in Clockwork Orange, and the wonderful Shostakovitch waltz in Eyes Wide Shut when Nicole K is dancing with the seductive Count.
Thanks for the friend invite, Robin. Your thriller sounds like an interesting and exciting read. If you like police procedurals, check out John Santana, my Colombian born homicide detective in White Tombs and The Black Minute. The third book in the series, Bad Weeds Never Die, will be released next year.
Awesome blogsite Robin, now I know why you don't find time to review. If I can figure out how I would like to check it out everytime you update. Best of luck with it and I hope it does you a lot of favours.
Still trying to promote my political thriller 1/1:Jihad-Britain, it's an uphill struggle in the UK with so few places prepared to review. So sad when I think of the work that went into this one and the fact that it is so current. Still. I expect I will get over it providing your blog brings you in some returns keep it up.
