Would you rather write or rob banks?

This is a story I've told many times before about a mystery writer I knew in his mature years. His name was Al Nussbaum and when he was young he was a bank robber who made the Top 10 on the FBI's Most Wanted list.

When he was hiding out, Al decided the best way to do it was pretend to be a writer because that way he had an excuse for seldom leaving his rented room. He bought a sports coat with elbow patches and a pipe because he thought that made him look like a writer. He also bought a… Continue

The heroes of their time

This has nothing to do with crime or mysteries but I'm copying this Stodghill Says So blog here anyhow:

In the spring and summer of 1930 we were living in a brick apartment building only a stone’s throw from Navin Field, home of the Detroit Tigers. I didn’t know what it was about, but sometimes on spring afternoons I could hear people cheering inside the big enclosure that to me looked like just another building.
There were other boys in the neighborhood, most of them a…

Hi Dick,
Thanks for befriending me here, and no, I don't have any connection to Fort Carson, though the military is very important in Colorado Springs, with that base, the USAF Academy, Peterson AFB, NORAD, etc. here.

Early Endorsements for “A Circle of Souls”

Linda Fairstein, NYT Bestselling Author: "A fascinating debut - this novel takes the reader to the darkest places in the human soul, from a writer with the authenticity to lead us there. A stunning thriller and an important read."

Judge Judy Sheindlin, star of the Judge Judy Show: "The seminal work of this fine author kept me glued to my chair until the adventure was over and the mystery solved. A great read!"

Book Synopsis:

The sleepy town of Newbury, Connecticut, is shocked when a little girl is found brutally murdered. The town s top detective, perplexed by a complete lack of leads, calls in FBI agent Leia Bines, an expert in cases involving children.

Meanwhile, Dr. Peter Gram, a psychiatrist at Newbury s hospital, searches desperately for the cause of seven-year-old Naya Hastings devastating nightmares. Afraid that she might hurt herself in the midst of a torturous episode, Naya s parents have turned to the bright young doctor as their only hope.

The situations confronting Leia and Peter converge when Naya begins drawing chilling images of murder after being bombarded by the disturbing images in her dreams. Amazingly, her sketches are the only clues to the crime that has panicked Newbury residents. Against her better judgment, Leia explores the clues in Naya s crude drawings, only to set off an alarming chain of events.
In this stunning psychological thriller, innocence gives way to evil, and trust lies forgotten in a web of deceit, fear, and murder.

Wow! You were at Normandy! I am an American who resides in the UK (marriage) and I've been to Normandy a few times. The most recent time I saw a pillpox wedged in the hills there and I felt so moved. I was able to close my eyes and see and hear how it must have been. So moving! My Dad was in the War but in the Pacific. I can't tell you how very much I admire you and am so thrilled to find you here at Crimespace. I looked at your page, and am going back to read all your info there. Old guy, and you work six hours a day/seven days a week? YOU'RE NOT OLD AT ALL! thanks so much for replying to my discussion.
