I've never been to Paris, France but I was experimenting with the themes available on the site and just liked this one. Actually, I've never been to Europe as an adult but the first place I'd like to visit is London, England -- mostly because of the lower language barrier.

(Crosspost) So, about this "social networking" thing...

[ I posted this over at Book Place also but thought I'd post it here as well. ]

I came to Book Place by way of Crimespace which was the first "social network" that I decided to join. With Crimespace I saw the point, I'm an editor of an online e-zine of crime fiction. Ditto with Book Place as I'm a hopeless collector of books.

Saying Hello to this new space.

I just happened across Crimespace in my web surfing today and decided straight away to join up. I'm very impressed by the "Ning" technology behind this site and it looks quite cool. I'm still looking around at the other content and member areas on the site so I don't have much else to say just now but here's a quick Hello.

It's now the most international city in the world - just the number of French, alone, makes it the sixth biggest city in France! - all the way from impoverished Bangladeshi and Somali asylum seekers to Russian billionaires, and everything in between. It's like New York, in the sense of not really bearing much resemblance to the country around it ... also the dollar/Sterling exchange rate will blow your mind. I mean, a Tube (subway) ride is 8 bucks! But if you have lots, and lots, and lots of money, it's just about the most dynamic, creative, filthy, polyglot, totalitarian (those CCTV cameras are everywhere and you ARE being watched) place on the planet.

Personally, I've moved to the country!
