If you're a fan of the old pulp magazines, check out the excellent Coming Attractions blog written by Bill Thom. Every Friday night he publishes an update with the latest news in the world of classic pulp reprints (Shadow, Spider, Doc Savage, Detective, SciFi, Adventure, G8, etc), modern day works, conventions, pulp creators, action/hero-oriented movies, and small press publications dedicated to pulps.

Leonard's 10 Rules for Writers

I've been a big fan of Elmore Leonard ever since I read his novel Mr. Paradise. I read his 10 Rules for Writers. Here's my review:

If you read customer's reviews of this hardcover book on Amazon.com you will quickly see that some people feel they were hoodwinked. In truth this "book" is really an article reprinted from The New York Times on the thickest paper I've ever seen between two covers. However, the…

Willamette Writers

My writing teacher mentioned the Willamette Writers group. Looks like a pretty large organization. I wonder if any past or present members would care to comment about the group and its benefit to aspiring crime fiction writers.

Hi Richard -- Thanks for accepting the invite. I'm also a big Elmore Leonard fan -- he writes the best dialogue in the business. Reece

When you finish that, go immediately to "Up in Honey's Room," it's a super sequel.

Thanks, Richard. I believe I'll have another story in the third issue of Dark Corridor, and something special in following issues, Good Lord willin' and the creeks don't rise. And as I have been for a while, I'm busy putting the finishing touches on a couple of supernatural mysteries, Howling in the Park and Dead Women in Love, the first two volumes in a series I hope to be shopping around shortly.

Richard, thanks for the comments on my blog. I guess we are all in the same boat with gas costs, because you've been reading my mail since we are doing so many of the same things to save a few pennies! My publisher, Five Star, has a Yahoo group where we share ideas and offer suggestions and ride sharing has come up, but I live at the end of the road, so I am on my own in Key West.
Good luck.
