Varied reading tastes, but generally prefer very light and very dark.
Ed McBain
Donald Westlake
P.G. Wodehouse
Elliot Paul
Fredric Brown

Golden Age authors, pulps, and even earlier. Generally prefer reading shorts to novels. If the setting includes performing arts or the Southwest I'll try it, as well as most "crossovers" with other genres.

"Name That Anthology" contest - final days

About a week left in the submission window for stories for the quirky

crime anthology HOW'D THEY DO THAT? Editor is fellow Crimespacer Jenifer Nightingale-Ethier. She's open to cross-genre pieces, so long as the core of the plot is a mystery/crime situation.

But, wait, there's more! Also taking suggestions for a new, cleverer

(?) name for the book. You don't have to submit a story to suggest a

title. Winner of the title contest gets cash & credit in the… Continue

Early Endorsements for “A Circle of Souls”

Linda Fairstein, NYT Bestselling Author: "A fascinating debut - this novel takes the reader to the darkest places in the human soul, from a writer with the authenticity to lead us there. A stunning thriller and an important read."

Judge Judy Sheindlin, star of the Judge Judy Show: "The seminal work of this fine author kept me glued to my chair until the adventure was over and the mystery solved. A great read!"

Book Synopsis:

The sleepy town of Newbury, Connecticut, is shocked when a little girl is found brutally murdered. The town s top detective, perplexed by a complete lack of leads, calls in FBI agent Leia Bines, an expert in cases involving children.

Meanwhile, Dr. Peter Gram, a psychiatrist at Newbury s hospital, searches desperately for the cause of seven-year-old Naya Hastings devastating nightmares. Afraid that she might hurt herself in the midst of a torturous episode, Naya s parents have turned to the bright young doctor as their only hope.

The situations confronting Leia and Peter converge when Naya begins drawing chilling images of murder after being bombarded by the disturbing images in her dreams. Amazingly, her sketches are the only clues to the crime that has panicked Newbury residents. Against her better judgment, Leia explores the clues in Naya s crude drawings, only to set off an alarming chain of events.
In this stunning psychological thriller, innocence gives way to evil, and trust lies forgotten in a web of deceit, fear, and murder.

Hi, do you collect all kinds of books or just crime? I've come across lots of pulp - what were they called - penny dreadfuls - in pretty good shape. I wrapped them up and kept them. I love the illustration of those old crime novels. Good luck on the Notorious Press...anthologies are good. My book, The Beatitudes, is a paranormal thriller set in New Orleans. It will be out in the fall and I am donating all royalties directly to the New Orleans Public Library Foundation. Libraries support the infrastructure of a great city, so I have started The Beatitudes Network to promote awareness of the importance of public libraries in NOLA.
The blogsite www.beatitudesinneworleans.blogspot.com describes the Network, has excerpts from The Beatitudes, recipes, and more. Merci mille fois. Lyn Lejeune.
Writers, please pass the word…..it’s for a good cause….don’t let the libraries of New Orleans or the US go the way of The Great Library of Alexandria. P.S. just posted an excerpt on my page here on crimespace.

I stayed in Kill Devil Hills in May when I was there and was thinking about what an unusual name that was :) Lots of unique names up and down that coast. Lots of awesome history to work with too :)
