Sad to hear. I was wondering if, as these larger stores are closing, are they being replaced by the small mom and pops?

In BLOOD AND BONE - An eighteen-year-old boy lies dying of leukemia. Kyle's only hope is a bone marrow transplant, but no one in his wealthy Virginia family can safely supply it. His last chance lies in finding his father, a man who disappeared before he was born. Police and private investigators can find nothing on a trail eighteen years cold.

Kyle's family has nowhere to turn until they learn of a certain troubleshooter, a self-styled knight errant in dark glasses named Hannibal Jones. He has two weeks to find the missing man, but his search turns up much more: A woman who might be Kyle's illegitimate sister, the woman who could be her mother, and the man who may have killed Kyle's father.

Hannibal follows a twisting, winding path of deception, conspiracy and greed, from Washington to Mexico, pursuing the truth. But with each step closer to it he gets, the danger grows.

This is the time of year that I increase my marketing activity, because this is when people are looking for gift ideas and I don’t want them to forget how much their friends and family love good books. Since I updated you last I had my last book signing at the Borders Express in Wheaton Mall before it closes. If you’re near there, stop by and pick up the last few copies of my novels at a nice discount.

I also signed some novels at the Borders Express in Ronald Reagan National Airport. Traffic was down from last year, but we still had fun greetin… Continue

Meet Me Tonight in VA

It’s a busy time of year for book promotion. Tonight I’ll join two other authors whose work is featured in the holiday mystery anthology, “The Gift of Murder” at the Reston Regional Library. Starting at 6:45 we’ll spend an hour or so talking about our holiday short stories, how we got involved with this project to help the Toys for Tots foundation. We’ll also answer questions about mystery writing and anything else pertinent that comes up. And of course, we’ll sign copies of the book for anyone… Continue

Good Morning Mr. Camacho,

May I call you Austin?

I have been working away from my computer and out of town. Thank you for your friend request., I am honored. I am also going out to get your book, "BLOOD & BONE". It sounds like a book I will enjoy. That of course, will lead me to your other three.

Hope to have the honor of meeting you in the near future.

Sincerely,

Michael Phelps

Austin,
Forgive me if I remember this incorrectly, but wasn't THE TROUBLESHOOTER originally self-published? There's a current discussion here about the pros and cons of self-publishing you may be uniquely suited to participate in, were you so inclined.

Did you come up with Hannibal's given name before or after Harris's Hannibal Lecter? I ask only that Harris's villain's name casts some rather dark aspersions on any other character attempting to overcome the cannibal's stigma.

Oh, most assuredly a good thing. I guess the stories left her in a very pleasant mood when they were finished.

Thanks. It was reassuring seeing at least one familiar face besides Geneva's. Otherwise, it would have been weird, Hollyweird or not. Nice reconnect.

Serendipity rules!

I stopped by my local independent mystery bookstore today to pick up the latest John Sandford, and right there next to the register was a lonely, pristine copy of BLOOD AND BONE. No thanks to gas prices, I'm now budgeting for books more carefully than a year ago, but I swear that book was singing my name, softly but persistently. What other course was left open to this humane reader? I took the homeless book away with me. I showed it the shelf that eventually (post-reading) will become its permanent home. I won't go so far as to say the book smiled, but the pages sure did flutter.
