New Story Online

My flash fiction (under 1,000 words) story, "Something About Harry" is online at Every Day Fiction. You can find the story here: http://www.everydayfiction.com/something-about-harry-by-dave-bara/

It's an SF piece, sort of my quick take on robotics and one possible future. There's some nice comments by readers too. Feel free to read and/or comment.

Thanks!

Yes, I'm Back...

On Crimespace and I actualy have some crime fiction to talk about now! I wrote a short for the Seattle Noir anthology called "Freak Show" last summer, and it made it to the final three stories before being bumped. Sigh. So I'm looking for a market for the story, preferably one that pays. I know about Hitchcock's and Ellery Queen, but beyond that I'm pretty much a rube when it comes to crime fiction markets. Anybody have any ideas?

I'm also brewing up another story, short or… Continue

$$$

I have finally received my $50 payment for my contribution to the Teacher Miracles anthology. Woo-hoo!

Hey, money is always well received at my house.

My shorts keep bouncing back with nice comments but no sale. I must push on.

The Second Novel (Reunion Day) is now past 60,000 words and on the downward slide to completion. I'm looking to have it market-ready by July when the major conferences begin (PNWC, Willamette, Bouchercon, Surrey). Trying…

Hi Dave, good to see you here!

Have not seen The Illusionist, but thought The Prestige was decent, with a few potholes.

Hi Dave- Nope, I went to the doctor on Saturday instead. She told me I had bronchitis and gave me drugs for it. Then I came home and slept. Sounds as if I didn't miss much. I've always thought those folks at Norwescon were definitely the type to be center stage at amateur hour.

Heard back from Medallion?

Oh, and it's "The Illusionist," hands down. I guessed both big plot twists in "The Prestige," and thought the acting was lame (and that Scarlett Johansen was wasted on her nothing role). Paul Giamatti and Edward Norton were terrific, and Rupert Sewell was wonderfully psychotic. Great movie.

LOL, well that's ok then Dave (and check your wee message thing).

Angie - I was gutted to discover there are so few episodes of Firefly.

Howdy, Dave & welcome to crimespace. I'm not a big straight-up sci-fi chick, but I was an enormous fan of Firefly (and very, very irritated when it got canceled). I like cross-genre stuff and your paranormal det. idea sounds interesting. Anyway, lots to do here at crimespace. Have fun!

Thanks Dave, then I shall get to Flowers For Algernon asap. And thank you for my title! I don't think it' suits me, but thank you anyway! It's nice to be considered lovely once in a while :o) And I will take heed of your recommendation on the Dick...errrrr....somehow that doesn't sound QUITE right, but I'm sure you know what I mean.

Donna, Flowers For Algernon qualifies, dear. As do The Andromeda Strain (Crichton), Bid Time Return (Somewhere in Time) by Richard Matheson. All of those are SF. Aliens not required, or in my opinion, even desired. As far as PKD, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep is the only place to start. Hugs and kisses - db
