Meet Me in MD Saturday

Saturday I will visit with my friends at the Borders in the Boulevard at the Capital Centre. I'll be stationed near the newly-expanded African American interest sections at the front of the store across from the music department. They've hosted a lot of great guests at this store: Tyler Perry, Mo'Nique, Robin Thicke, Russell Simmons...…

Another Great Thriller!

I like to point out volumes that you may want to add to your library. This week I want to steer you to Watchlist, a book published by the International Thriller Writers, Inc. I'm not a big fan of samplers, those collections of unrelated stories by different authors, but I do like a lot of variety in my literary diet, so Watchlist appealed to me. The book features two novellas and 21 of the best thriller writers alive.

The two story ideas, and the primary characters, came from one of… Continue

Balance

In the Army I was often told to lead, follow, or get out of the way. I often wondered how much damage was done by people making the wrong choice from those options. Now that I'm more mature I see that the mistakes made in this area even out over time.

Most who lead, can't. Most who…

The Gaithersburg Book Festival was an excellent example of what happens when a community gets behind a project. There were lots of volunteers, great food concessions, and a well organized series of speakers in large festival tents. Add to that perfect weather in a lovely outdoor setting and you can see why I had a good time. Plus, my table was next to the tent that hosted two cooking demonstrations and a presentation on gourmet coffee complete with free samples. Oh, and I signed a few books for… Continue

A New Book Festival

I'll spend Saturday at the first annual Gaithersburg Book Festival. From 10am to 6pm the Gaithersburg City Hall Grounds will be alive with readers and writers. Another Cool Review

I like to share comments I receive about my work. Today I want to introduce Jay Burruss.

Jay's wife bought him a copy of Russian Roulette the last time I signed books at Borders in Waldorf, MD, and he wrote me an email praising the books. Then, to my great joy they both stopped by when I was at that store Saturday, to chat with me and get more Hannibal Jones novels.

Jay's personal path parellels Hannibal Jones' in some ways. He's about to retire from the military and will… Continue

Another Cool Review

I like to share comments I receive about my work. Today I want to introduce Glenn Anderson.

Glenn picked up a copy of Russian Roulette at a book signing I did at Borders Express in Fair Oaks Mall. After reading it he wrote to let me know how much he enjoyed it. He said the book kept him guessing, and he liked that the pace and excitement kept building.

Glenn was nice enough to take the time to post a review on Amazon.com. Thanks, Glenn for your kind words. I've added your… Continue

Why?

At last weekend's mystery conference we talked quite a bit about characters having believable motives. Even the most evil villains should be expected to pursue their objectives the easiest way. For example, if Wile E. Coyote from the Road Runner show had enough money to buy all that ACME crap, why didn't he just buy dinner?

Author Update

Some weekends are more fun than others, and this one was super. The fans at Malice Domestic are always warm and welcoming. Parnell Hall was hilarious, and it was moving to meet both Mary Higgins Clark and William Link (the guy who created Columbo, Mannix and tons of other great TV shows.) Aside from the awards banquet, the high point…

Another Cool Review

I like to share comments I receive about my work. Today I want to introduce Linda Halliburton.

I met Linda at the Virginia Festival of the Book in Charlottesville, VA where she picked up a copy of The Troubleshooter. She read it the next day on her flight home and was kind enough to send me some feedback. I've posted some of her comments on my website as this week's featured review. Read Linda Halliburton's review of The Troubleshooter - then order your own copy. -…

Why?

Communication is both my business and my hobby, but I sometimes wonder at the nonverbal communications we make. For instance, why do people point to their wrist when asking for the time, but don't point to their butt when they ask where the bathroom is?

I had a great time Saturday visiting with old pals and meeting new authors at the Maryland Writers' Association Writers' Conference.
