Hi, I'm Karen Tyrrell, an Australian Writer in the genres of Crime Faction, Memoir, and Kids Sci-Fi .
My near-completed CRIME novel, "Sayonara" is part memoir, part fiction and has already been requested by a Publisher ... A Japanese exchange student vanishes and Josie, a pacifist forensic student, aggressively searches for her. Can you discern the line between Fact and Fiction? http://www.karentyrrell.com
“Yes, it’s bad,” Cary replied, not willing to lie to Preston as he tightened his grip on his shoulders. “I can understand now why you think you need to hide away here.”
“You never were one to pull your punches with me.”
“Never saw a reason to.” Cary traced a fingertip along the worst of the scars. “This gives you a sort of piratical look you know. It’s kind of sexy.”
Preston snorted out a short laugh. “Maybe, if it was the only one.”
I'm delighted to say that my most recent paperback release, Purple Death has at last appeared in the UK and can now be obtained from AbeBooks.co.uk and from Amazon.co.uk
US readers can of course obtain the book direct… Continue

Crime writer Simon Beckett wrote a few days ago in The Guardian that he’d had no idea he was the best-selling British author in Europe until stats were released last month. Not surprising, because at home no one has a clue who he is.
The Sheffield-born writer of a series of novels about a forensic anthropologist (hard to define, but it involves a lot of descriptions…
This is the cover for Terminated. The book is still on schedule for a June 1st release and I'm looking forward to see what everyone thinks. It's quite a tale. :-)
I have to say I'm really pleased that my new novel Pestilence has got off to a good start in the UK, with the book having hit a position of 20,701 in the sales rankings at Amazon.co.uk today.
I’ve been called the Dashiell Hammett of Palestine, the John Le Carre of the Middle East, the James Ellroy of…Palestine, the Graham Greene of Jerusalem, and the Georges Simenon of the Palestinian refugee camps. Depends which review you happen to have read.
I’ve written three previous crime novels about Omar Yussef, my Palestinian schoolteacher/sleuth. Omar has been called the Philip Marlowe of the Arab street, the Hercules Poirot of the Near East, Sam Spade fed…
In May, Grand Central Publishing will be publishing INNOCENT by Scott Turow, the sequel to PRESUMED INNOCENT. INNOCENT continues the story of Rusty Sabich and Tommy Molto who are, once again, twenty years later, pitted against each other in a riveting psychological match… Continue
My family has been snowed in six days. Today, a second blizzard is dumping another two feet of the white stuff. With Jack, my husband, immersed in his imaginary world of HO-scale trains; and Tristan, my son, conquering empires in the world of Wii, I should have the first draft of the great American mystery novel completed by the time we’re dug out around Easter. Don’t you think?
When it comes to explaining my lack of progress, I…
Watch a whimsical video explaining why the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo is a better place from which to take stock of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict -- better in fact than a Gaza refugee camp or an Israeli military base. Seriously. And yet not.

Preston woke with a start to the sound of the buzzer. His heart leapt with hope until he blearily looked at the clock and saw it was past eight. “Damned, stupid, idiotic pizza delivery people,” he growled. “Probably pushed the wrong button.” He debated ignoring it then figured the fool would just keep buzzing so he stumbled up and crossed to buzz them in.
As he started back to the sofa his cell rang. One look at the Caller ID and he answered, saying angrily, “No Tabby he didn’t… Continue

Last night at my reading at the Mysterious Bookshop in Manhattan, my Overlook Press publicist dropped off a stack of ARCs for 'The Caretaker of Lorne Field' at the bookstore, which I signed.Caretaker isn't out until July, but you can get a signed ARC for it now. Mysterious Bookshop will be giving out the ARCS they have with each purchase of a signed copy of Pariah. Not a bad deal.
I've posted the last Turner Hahn/Frank Morales short story entitled 'Dirt' over on my dedicated blog. Go over and give it a look-see. You might like it. Find it at
I'mmm sooooo tired! Book launch party last night. Nothing stressful: a lot of friends show up, eat lovely goodies, buy a book or two, and chat. But I'm still exhausted today. And last night the edits showed up on my next book with a "please return in one week" notation. And we're getting ready to take our show on the road soon. And. And. And. There's no rest for the wicked writer, no matter how much fun she's having.

This topic had, mercifully, run its course, but this column was sent to me by a friend who knew I was interested in publishing and thought I might find it interesting. It's a lot the same of what we've read on the Macmillan-Amazon controversy, with a couple of things I hadn't known and hadn't seen elsewhere.
The end conclusion is familiar. Anyone who things author came out ahead here also thinks, in the auhtor's words, "expensive milk is a victory for… Continue
