For my writer friends, Writing World.com has an article up on how to plan a Virtual Book Tours written by my pal Mohamed Mughal. His last tour included a spot on my blog, so I got a mention - http://bit.ly/dmtrkt

Sondheim in the West Bank

I’m in between drafts of a novel, so I thought I’d look for something to clear my head. Inspired by a BBC broadcast last week in honor of the 80th birthday of Broadway lyricist and composer Stephen Sondheim, I’ve been working on a musical version of my Palestinian crime novels. (Only in the shower, so far…)

I’m thinking of updating the Romeo and Juliet story and setting it in Bethlehem. In tribute to the Sondheim-Bernstein classic “West Side Story,” it’ll be…

Israel Museum gets funky

I was the first journalist to interview James Snyder when he arrived in 1997 from a sinecure at New York's Museum of Modern Art to head the Israel Museum, the country's premier cultural institution.

Snyder had neat white hair, a trim build encased in a seersucker suit, and a black tie. This, in a land where dressing up means putting on a T-shirt that has sleeves. As I listened to his East Coast drawl, I took one look at him and figured he wouldn’t…

Swept Up in a Bestseller

Everyone agrees that nobody knows what makes a bestseller. Books that were BLOCKBUSTERS often leave me asking, "On whose block?"

Those who know me can guess that I do not care about vampire boyfriends, Glenn Beck's rantings, or the people you meet in heaven. But even in my favorite genre, mystery, I'm puzzled by what others like that I find insipid or overdone or unbelievable. It may be Grouchy Reader Syndrome, which…

I lose a lot of productive time because I put my reading glasses down in the wrong place and can’t find them when I need them. Ultimately I end up buying yet another pair – at which point the missing pair magically reappears. This works for keys too. In fact, the easiest way to find anything lost… Continue

Author Update

The Borders in Tysons Corner isn’t the busiest store in the chain, but I still had a good time at the book signing. Not only did I make some new fans but some good friends stopped by to say hi and upgrade their collections of my novels (a shout-out to Joni Jackson Langevoort, ace thriller writer Richard Gazala and his cute friend Heather.) Familiar faces always make these events even better!

Also, this month’s edition of the International Thriller Writers newsletter, the Big…

I've received a copy of the Turkish edition of my crime thriller novel In Cold Daylight

I knew it was being published in Turkey but didn't know when. And I always get a buzz when I see one of my books translated into another language. This one looks good. I believe the Turkish publisher has changed the title of the book, but I've no idea what it means. Perhaps someone who speaks Turkish might tell me. (Title is below).
