Excerpt finally posted on my
Tory Richards website. My third erotic romance, "THE COWBOY WAY" comes out in April 2009 in print and ebook. Blurb below.
Artist Lacey Owens comes home to her father’s ranch for a long over due visit, and to get a little work done on her next project. She’s not prepared for becoming the means for revenge against her father by an old enemy he helped send to prison. Getting involved with her father’s ranch foreman…

Borders and HarperStudio have made a bold move to
eliminate returns. I'll be curious to see how this plays out in the coming months, but I'm also curious to know what people in the book business think. Is this move good or bad?

I watch a lot of TV, but that isn't where I prefer to get my religious training. Unfortunately, I have some acquaintances who feel I am missing out by not taking advantage of the inspiration available from televised preachers. I usually let that conversation go about ten minutes before I start to explain just how I worship and why. It is about that time that I am generally reminded of faith-based rule #1:
People who want to share their religious views with you almost never want you…

The answer to that question has gone through several phases in my lifetime. When I was a kid, bad guys were shot dead left and right, and nobody gave them a second thought. Then we got into the idea of rehabilitation, and bad guys were arrested and led away with "Book 'em, Dano" or something similar. When cop/sleuths' personalities began to enter into fiction, we had to deal with the fact that they FELT like killing the really bad guys. For a while there, it became pretty common for the bad guy…

The weekend signing experiments were not all equally successful, but all were fun and profitable. Our choice for Waldenbooks in Manassas Mall - Friday from 4 pm to 8 pm - may not have been the most profitable time selection. Still I signed a few books and had the joy of having one fellow buy one of my novels, wander off into the mall, and return an hour later to declare aloud in the store, "This is the best book I have ever read."
Saturday was a little better at Books-A-Million in…

I'd like to talk with you about hosting an interesting author guest on your site. In return, we would promote your blog as part of the tour. Some of the options include:
1 - Send interview questions for the author to answer (related to his book or writing).
2 - Hosts may require a guest post - about their book, writing, the background or a topic in the book.
3 - Post an excerpt from the book.
4 – If you have another idea, let me know. I love promoting – outside the…

Rumor has it that Mozart wrote down his work only once; it sprung from his head complete and perfect. Well, that isn't me. I read, re-read, and read again everything I write, and each time come closer to what I want to say. It takes a lot of time and a lot of paper, because I have to have a hard copy for most edits. I suppose it's trial and error, and we all know that's inefficient, but it's how I like to work.
I enjoy watching characters slowly become themselves. At first mention…

In the course of the last week I finished my first read through of The Beholder. This initial edit was all about cutting out any extraneous verbiage, and it resulted in the total word count falling from 106,000 to 96,000. For the most part, the stuff that got the chop was either odd words or sentences that simply weren’t needed, as they over described either the setting or the action.
I then moved on to stage two, which was to work through the assorted notes and comments I made…

Since I placed my 'plea for votes' for
'The Nemesis Cell' in the current
New Covey Cover Awards, I've had a few e-mails requesting more information about the book, as the title seems to have caught a number of people's imaginations, which is rather nice. So, I thought I'd just post this short blurb about the book to give eveyone an idea of what my forthcoming novel is all…

Thursday evening, my hubby and I joined 28 other stalwart sleuths from the Rocky Mountain chapter of Mystery Writers of America for our holiday party at the Adams Mystery Playhouse, complete with dinner and a mystery play (http://www.adamsmysteryplayhouse.com/). The play was "Death for Dinner." It included a police detective who sounded like a cross between Borat and Inspector Clouseau and who had the audience in stitches with his impromptu asides. Our table was one of three who correctly…

The holiday season is fast approaching and I noticed in my own every day life that the pressure to finish everything is on. There is the shopping, baking, cooking and cleaning to get the house ready for our annual get together with friends and family, and of course my day job; the one that actually provides a regular pay check.
But there is also the life of the writer and the functions that have be attended to get my name out there-where ever out there is.
Today was just…

I'm still getting email replies to the Happy Valentine's greetings I sent out one at a time to all my CrimeSpace friends, so I've decided not to do individual messages this holiday season (though you got one if you're also my friend on MySpace). But I wish you all an abundant and joyful Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, and/or Solstice. I'm celebrating my deal with St. Martin's for DEATH WILL HELP YOU LEAVE HIM, the follow-up to DEATH WILL LEAVE YOU SOBER. So I'm ending a year of tough up-and-downs…

As I told you, today I have a book signing at Books-A-Million, 6230 N. Kings Hwy, Alexandria, VA. from noon to 4 pm.

And if you can't make either event, you can always order my books through…

Good lord, I just spent $250 on stocking stuffers and I am done Christmas shopping. I usually buy the girls, and by girls I mean my daughter and niece, the same stocking stuffers every year. They look forward to body lotions, toothbrushes, purse size hand sanitizers, nail polish and various other personal items. Of course they get candy, the good stuff, and my daughter gets a can of asparagus. She loves the stuff but it's so darn expensive. Gee, it was almost #3 a can this year.
This…

Medusa, Roland Longville number four, will be out by year's end.
Lady Midnight will follow next year. I am currently finishing up the sixth installment,
The Burning Day, and my publisher is so confident in my abilities that he is already advertising it for later release. I am lucky to have a great friend and co-conspirator in my publisher; he's a great writer himself, and in a similar vein, and I think he "knows where I'm coming from." I feel we are great friends and we…

I have just received the Polish copy of my thriller, In Cold Daylight, renamed
Fire and Water in Poland (Ogien i Woda) and it looks fantastic.
The cover image is very impressive and the book is a cross between a hardback and paperback with a very unusual flap extending from the front and back cover which you can use as a handy bookmark - a brilliant idea. There is a lovely illustration…
