Mini Book Tour A Success

There was certainly a welcome in the hillside and on the banks of the River Tyne for me in the north of England this week during my mini book tour, which kicked off at Newcastle City Library and ended at The Richmond Walking and Book Festival. I met some fantastic people who made me very welcome and very kindly bought tons of my books. Thank you.

The new city library at Newcastle is most impressive and a million miles away from the libraries of… Continue

Novel Ideas

Ideas for novels come from a variety of sources: overheard conversations, stories relayed by others, personal experience, locations and the news. On my blog I recently mentioned the Windsurfing Festival on Hayling Island as a potential idea for an Inspector Andy Horton Marine Mystery crime novel, well here's another idea that popped into my Google Reader - Murder on the Hayling Seaside Express. For the first time since 1963 a steam passenger train is to return to Hayling Island.

Then… Continue

A busy Autumn ahead

It's official, Autumn is here (according to the Metrological office in Great Britain) and it's shaping up to be a lively time with several book signings and talks lined up, as well as the release of The Suffocating Sea (an Inspector Horton Marine Mystery) in Large Print and news (hopefully) when the NEW Andy Horton crime novel, Blood Upon The Sand, will be published.

Optimistic and excited

I’ve been wrestling with the plot of my next Inspector Horton Marine Mystery crime novel over the last few days – hence the silence on my blog, and the silence around the house. I get so absorbed in it, that I find it hard to think of anything else. I’m just over two thirds of the way through writing the first draft and I’ve got to that stage where I need to know exactly where I’m going and with whom. You’d think I would have it all worked out by now, having written nearly seventy thousand… Continue

Today sees the official publication of the unabridged audio book version of The Suffocating Sea, the third in the Inspector Horton Marine Mystery series of crime novels set in the Solent area of the UK. It is also the publication date of three new marketing and sales books written by me.

The Suffocating Sea has been published by Isis Publishing as an Unabridged… Continue

I'm pleased to say that The Suffocating Sea, the third in the Inspector Horton Marine Mystery series of crime novels set in the Solent area of the UK, is to be published in Large Print in September.

I've also been told that it's coming out as an unabridged audio book but am waiting confirmation of the date. When I know it I'll post something here and on my web site at http://www.rowmark.co.uk/

Cornwall and CrimeFest

I’ve just returned from giving two talks in Cornwall where the sun was shining, the sea was blue and the crowds were flocking to St Ives, which was my first port of call on Tuesday morning at 11am. I met some delightful people as always and my heartfelt thanks to them for listening to me talking about how I write and for buying my books. After a quick sandwich lunch sitting in the cemetery overlooking the bay it was about an hour’s drive to St Austell… Continue

Park Lane and Pink Ladies

Well now I can say I’ve lunched at The InterContinental Hotel, Park Lane and a very nice lunch it was too. When my husband, Bob, gave the London taxi driver the hotel’s address, the cabbie asked if we’d won the lottery – obviously then we didn’t look the usual clientele of The InterContinental. I wasn’t sure whether to be flattered or offended. I, of course, pretended to be a World famous crime… Continue

Radio Phone-In and Ferry Crossing

My radio phone in interview with Alex Dyke on Wight FM on 16 April was lots of fun. It was great to talk to people via a phone-in and to answer questions they’d e mailed in regarding my novels and how I write. I'd love to do more radio phone-ins so hope I can link in with other radio stations on this soon.

I was also delighted to find that the Captain sailing the Wightlink ferry from Portsmouth to Fishbourne, on my way over to the Isle of Wight… Continue

The London Book Fair 2009

The London Book Fair kicks off next Monday and is a great place to learn more about the publishing industry with free seminars and lots of publishers present. For published writers and those wishing to be published it's a good way to research the market and find out who is who. You can pick up new ideas at the fair, make new contacts, check out what kind of titles publishers are publishing and network with other authors, and those in the book business.

I've started and can't wait to finish

I've just started working on the new Inspector Andy Horton marine mystery; the sixth in the series. At first it all seems rather messy, lots of ideas and threads and none of them joined up enough to make a worthwhile plot, until yesterday that was.

I do all my plot outlines and characters in pencil before starting the creative writing process but this time something was urging me to start typing on to screen and get on with the creative writing process right away. Perhaps it was… Continue

Thanks all round

Thank you to Mike Powell of BBC Radio Solent for inviting me to be his guest on his Sunday afternoon programme (15 March 2009) to talk about the unsolved murder of my great aunt, Martha Giles, who was brutally killed on 12 February 1959. I was also talking to Mike about my marine mystery crime and thriller novels.

Thanks also to those of you who were kind enough to e mail and text him to say how much you enjoy my novels, and to offer your support… Continue

Talks, E Books and Radio Interview

I had a great night on Wednesday night at Hayling Island's Women's Institute meeting where I gave a talk on my marine mystery crime novels. About forty ladies were present and made me very welcome indeed. They also allowed my husband, Bob, into the meeting as my official photographer and bouncer. Not that I needed a bouncer on this occasion. All were very friendly and bought lots of books, for which I thank them. I already had some readers in the… Continue

Who do you see playing Inspector Horton?

I’m often asked this question. Who would play Inspector Andy Horton if there was a film or television series made of my Marine Mysteries. It’s quite a tricky question to answer in a way because my view of the actor to play Andy Horton might not fit with yours.

Andy Horton has had a tough upbringing. Illegitimate and brought up on the streets of Portsmouth, his mother abandoned him as a child. He has no idea where she is or even if she is alive.… Continue

I'm on Angel Radio today 12.30pm to 1pm

Angel Radio is a thriving radio station with a growing audience worldwide. It is also unique in that it accentuates the positive aspects of being an older person, provides a radio station for older people to run themselves, and specialises in records made before1960. There is no other radio station in Europe which provides this all encompassing service for older people. And I know it has listeners in the USA too.

Join me on Angel Radio on 17 February talking about my marine… Continue

The New Inspector Horton Marine Mystery Crime Novel

Here it is, the jacket cover for the NEW Inspector Horton Marine Mystery - Dead Man's Wharf- the fourth in the series. It will be published on 30 April 2009. It looks pretty sinister to me and I hope you like it. Let me know what you think.

Below is a preview of what's to come in Dead Man's Wharf. I'll be posting an extract from the book on my web site in due course. For now you can read extracts of Tide of Death and Deadly Waters, featuring… Continue
