I for one am very happy to see when a crime author decides to blend genres and firmly leaps out of the box create for the genre. Steve Mosby presents us with an excellent crime story, which has elements of speculative science fiction chucked in, along with a dash of horror.
Steve Mosby published his first book at about the same time as me, and at about the same age, around 26. When I read
The Third Person, it left me gobsmacked and not a little jealous. If he can…

James Lee Burke is arguably one of America’s greatest hardboiled detective authors, and Last Car to Elysian Fields not only does that reputation justice, it strengthens his position as a crime writer with an immense literary range that borders on the poetic.
Detective Dave Robicheaux is asked by Father Jimmie Dolan to join him on a trip into St. James Parish, where he meets the daughter of a musician who disappeared years before. Soon strange links begin to emerge between…

Reader's Entertainment caught up with espionage/thriller writer Haggai Carmon this week to talk about his new release, Chameleon Conspiracy and find out more about what makes this series, and this author, unique.
Question: Using the Twitter method of answering (140 characters or less) tell us what makes your series different from others of the same genre?
They’re different because I’m an insider. My thrillers are partially based on the real adventures I had while…

There's a lot happening on the international crime fiction scene these days, and so much of it seems to be linked to Southern Africa.
Roger Smith's hardboiled
Mixed Blood has become a pressure-cooker story on the international front: German publishers have snapped it up and the film's been optioned with
Samuel L. Jackson linked to the project. Then there's
Michael Stanley and the writing duo's
A… Continue

The hand wrapped around my throat, the long nails on its fingers cut my skin. I screamed. I could hear myself screaming. I snatched out of the fingers’ grip and fell. Fell a long way. Then the dirt hit my face. I was being buried alive! I scrambled sideways when I realized there was nothing to stop me. When I hit the table, I woke up, piled on the floor with the aloe plant from the bedside table and all its dirt on top of me. The nightmare I’d…

Since attending ThrillerFest last year in NYC I have been absorbed with this genre. I find I like two kinds of thrillers.
I like the scary kind, like Karen Rose's can be. And I like the kind that make you wonder who the killer is and take you through the steps so you can almost feel like you're a detective too! I guess those are more crime fiction.
I have read a lot of the classics, a lot of romance, self help and horror. If something sounds inspirational I'll read that. I…

Today I finally threaded my way through the convoluted process of becoming an approved Amazon reviewer. My first official act was to award myself a five-star review for
Eldercide. I'll have to wait 48 hours to see if it goes through or if they're picky enough to catch the blatant self-promotion and maybe ban me forever.
To be a reviewer in good standing, you also have to surrender your credit card number and to have purchased books from Amazon in the relatively recent past. I…

I'd like to talk with you about hosting an interesting author guest on your site. In return, we would promote your blog as part of the tour. Some of the options include:
1 - Send interview questions for the author to answer (related to his book or writing).
2 - Hosts may require a guest post - about their book, writing, the background or a topic in the book.
3 - Post an excerpt from the book.
4 – If you have another idea, let me know. I love promoting – outside the…

Not often a factor analyzed by the national media as it dooms the national and global economy, book signings may be holding their own --- at least around here. Even as my third novel,
FRESH FROZEN, was enjoying an October 2008 book release just as the economy was really tanking (not a cause and effect relationship, I’m sure), I along with hoards of other authors and publicists was busy. The goal was to line up and confirm appearances at…

Fresh Frozen by Darden North, Ponder House Press
Where else do you find a handsome, young doctor, a gorgeous socialite, a thief, a flamboyant personal shopper and a grisly murder plot? All in a Darden North novel, of course. North, a Cleveland native and practicing obstetrician and gynecologist in Jackson, has just released his third medical…

Because my friends live all over the world, I knew only a handful would be able to attend my book launch no matter where it was held. So I decided to recreate the traditional launch party experience on the Web.
Entertainment for the October 1-3, 2008 event includes video welcomes from David Morrell, Gayle Lynds, James Rollins, and Douglas Preston, a reading by a professional voice actress who's also a New York Times author, standup comedy from one of my author friends - even…

I have just received copies of the Polish translation of my thriller

Red Horse Publishers based in Poland bought the translation rights to three of my crime and thriller novels earlier this year and…

To celebrate the completion and upcoming release of his third medical thriller, FRESH FROZEN hardcover, October 2008), author Darden North, MD blogs again.
