Today brought me to Barnes & Noble in Freehold, NJ, just outside the Freehold Raceway Mall—and next door to the famed Jersey Freeze, a notable hot spot (uh, cool spot?) for great sundaes.

My delightful hostess, Dorothy Newmark, certainly made me feel welcome, and she tirelessly drove people to my table, urging them to discover this brand new author. Her efforts bore fruit, and I was able to meet a lot of new friends.

We made the event a kind of family affair—My wife and my oldest son had come along, and I was thrilled that my stepdaughter had driven down from Massachusetts, and had brought my grandson along to “watch Grampy sign books.” (Look for a picture of him at the table, on my website, as soon as I can get a Pictures page up…)

You no doubt know that Freehold is Bruce Springsteen’s hometown. According to Dorothy, the Boss has been known on occasion to show up at the store, and head for the music section. Not on my watch, though.
