Need recommendations for research

I'm thinking of writing some stories set in 1930s London, and I need to do some research. Can anyone recommend any sources that might have some information about city life in London at that time, or (better still) any books that are set there in that time period?

Many libraries and universities provide free access to The London Times Digital Archive, which covers the years 1785-1985. I can access it online through our local State library, you should be able to do something similar if you're a member.
