Some of my favorite myths and urban legends.
1. Elementary, my dear Watson.
Sherlock Holmes never said it.
2. Houston, we have a problem.
The actual statement was, "Houston, we've had a problem."
3. There's a sucker born every minute.
That statement was actually made by a competitor of P.T. Barnum's, not by Barnum himself.
4. Let them eat cake.
Marie Antoinette never said it. It was spoken by another frenchwoman, and the food item referenced were buns, not cake.
5. That's where the money is.
By his own admission, Willie Hutton never made that statement.
So which urban legends do you know of?
TOTALLY UNRELATED COMMENT: Am I the only one who thinks that Laura L. Cooper's avatar (the thumbnail) looks like a woman wearing a red dress with an exposed back? Have I totally flipped or does the thumbnail look like a woman facing a wall with her arms held over her head?
The enlarged picture clearly shows a hand clutching a knife which has been stuck into a sheet, and appears to be incising it. What looks like a dress in the thumbnail, is clearly shown as a red sleeve covering the hand holding the knife in the enlarged picture. And what is clearly a knife in the enlarged picture looks like a head in the thumbnail.
Does anybody else see what I see, or do I need to get out more?

"Play it again, Sam" is not the actual quote. It is really: "Play it, Sam."
Ilsa: Play it once, Sam. For old times' sake.
Sam: I don't know what you mean, Miss Ilsa.
Ilsa: Play it, Sam. Play "As Time Goes By."
Sam: Oh, I can't remember it, Miss Ilsa. I'm a little rusty on it.
Ilsa: I'll hum it for you. Da-dy-da-dy-da-dum, da-dy-da-dee-da-dum...
Ilsa: Sing it, Sam.
The line is usually associated with Humphrey Bogart and later in the film his character Rick Blaine has a similar exchange, although his line is simply 'Play it':
Rick: You know what I want to hear.
Sam: No, I don't.
Rick: You played it for her, you can play it for me!
Sam: Well, I don't think I can remember...
Rick: If she can stand it, I can! Play it!
