Venues for essays?

So, I've accidentally written an essay on crime writing in academia (it's a personal essay with jokes, a bit over 3,000 words), and now I'm looking for a place to publish it. Any thoughts? My preference would be a print journal, but I'd be willing to look at established on-line venues, too.

Why don't you try Alfred Hitchcock or Ellery Queen Mystery mags? They run essays. Hell, they might even pay you (gasp!)

You can use your Crimespace blog to post essays. Alternatively, you could create a topic here in the forum called "Essays" and make it clear that the thread should only be used to post essays (meaning no discussion). Daniel could probably also create a separate section on here for essays.

That would be a last resort. I tend to think of blog posts as brief and relatively spontaneous--or at least that's what they are when I write them.

I agree. But I was referring to Dan's suggestion for a place to post essays. I wasn't suggesting you post yours here.

If you have a copy of Writer's Market, or access to a copy, then that might be the best place to look; certainly you'll find the most venue listings there. Wading through them all might not be pleasant, though.
