It's been a while since I read Nesbo. I probably didn't like some book. Maybe I should try again. Unlike a lot of people I don't mind characters with drinking problems. If it's a police procedural, this is often due to job stress and adds more job stress. Stress is very good in a mystery.
Wait! The Harry Hole books irritate me because of the over-the-top plots. Otherwise I could relate to Harry. The last one I read was set in Thailand.
I'm interested! Both my series characters, Dan Marlowe/Hampton Beach, and Mike Malloy/Harvard Square--Boston's Combat Zone, have alcohol and/or drug issues. I know of Nesbo, but nothing of his character Harry Hole except that it's an interesting name.
