John Kenyon at Grift Magazine kindly gave me Ferraris's new novel Kingdom of Strangers to review. It's excellent. And regarding an earlier discussion of female crime writers to read--add Ferraris to the list. I've been a big fan since her first novel, Finding Nouf.

Morgan Hannah MacDonald is the popular author of several romantic thrillers which have become a sensation in the Kindle world. Her favorite in writing is serial killers, but it wasn’t until she found she had actually dated one herself that a true writer was born. She is a member of Romance Writers of America, the San Diego Chapter, as well as the Kiss of Death…

It’s a brand new month and this week’s featured author sets the trasnporter’s controls for Space Coast near Kennedy Center. In a few minutes, we’re lounging in his music and writing studio listening to Dexter Gordon on the stereo and a mockingbird outside. He gives me cheap Walmart wine and crackers and says the pizza is coming soon. However, I can spend the night in…

One of the most interesting aspects of studying criminal behavior and criminology is finding out why and how criminals commit a specific crime. It is the complicated task of finding out what makes an individual tick by learning more about their criminal pattern of behavior in the process.…

After—let’s see, borrow from the one—eighteen years of writing, about fifteen years of looking to get published, and countless hours and blog posts whining about the current state of publishing, today I signed an honest-to-Chandler book contract with Stark House to publish the second of my Penns River novels, Grind Joint.
The successor to Worst Enemies (currently available for …

Heard back from a local literary zine today and it looks like they wanna publish one of my short stories! :D It's a new publication and not particularly huge, but it's something, and considering the little I have published now, better than nothing. I believe it's just an e-zine for right now but they are supposed to release a physical volume annually of their best work. I imagine I'd be eligible. The release for this should be in the Fall. While this story isn't really a crime story, I…

I'm bad at blogging so this is more likely to become a disconnected jumble of ramblings and irrelevancies than anything else. But I figured I might as well try this out and see if anyone pays attention.
This is a pretty interesting place. Like the discussion. Seems less arrogant than other writing forums I've been one. I value that. Wish it were more active but I suppose I can do my part to help fix that.
I wrote a short story yesterday. Probably the most awkward…

After the Severn House drinks party it was time for another drinks reception this time hosted by CrimeFest and with the purpose of announcing those authors shortlisted for some of the prestigious Crime Writers’ Association (CWA) Daggers Shortlist. Here are some photographs from the event where I was lucky enough to meet up with some DI Horton fans and chat to them about the…

Another 5-star review! Here's what Cherie Hiles (Somewhere in the Bible belt) posted on Amazon.com about Damaged Goods:
"I was sorry it ended. I was completely hooked on this book from beginning to end. The writing is excellent, the story well-told with depth of character, and description that doesn't leave you confused - but doesn't go on and on to the point of boring you.
I honestly couldn't put it down except when forced, (funny how they think you ought to work at work,…

Just as in CrimeFest 2010 this year’s CrimeFest was again a glorious hot day with wall-to-wall sunshine in Bristol. Not the best time to be closeted inside the Royal Marriott Hotel but a very pleasant one to be strolling along the regenerated dock area and catching the little ferry across the narrow strip of water, which I managed to do. It was great to be back on the water, albeit for about two minutes, and I wondered whether DI Horton might take a trip into Bristol on his yacht one day.…
