I won the St. Martin's Press/Malice Domestic Best Traditional First Mystery Competition, and my book "Posed for Murder" came out in 2009 and was nominated for an Agatha Award. My second book, "Dead in the Water" comes out May 11, 2010. I teach mystery writing and screenwriting.
I read mysteries non-stop, but the authors I always look for are Ruth Rendell, Laura Lippman, Michael Connelly, Harlan Coben, Agatha Christie, Dashiell Hammett... Some I've recently discovered are Laurie King, Will Thomas, Rex Stout, Robert Parker, and Edgar Wallace.
Movies And TV Shows I Like:
Red, White and Blue. Short Cuts. The Third Man. Ran. Stand By Me.
Thanks for the invitation to visit your site. Kudos on your big win. Very impressive. And best wishes for your upcoming book. St. Martin's is an amazing publishing house.
Hey Meredith,
How's it going? Delighted to be your friend. Do you remember we met at Malice? Missed the last MWA dinner in NY but maybe we'll see each other at the next one..or at the Flatiron building.
Hi Meredith S., thanks for the welcome, I really appreciate it ... I'm totally new to this malarkey, so any and all protocol tips are very welcome. Hearty congrats on your competition win, and on having your book published - fabulous news. A win for one of us is a win for all of us ... except for the other people in the competiton, of course. But then, it can't be Mills & Boon all the time, can it? Chat soon, Dec
Hi Meredith. Congratulations on winning the St. Martin's/Malice Domestic contest and on your upcoming publication. How exciting for you!! :) Thanks so much for inviting me into your group.
HI thanks for inviting me to join as a friend. Brilliant news about your win, I will look forward to reading about it though whether it will cross the atlantic we shall have to wait and see. I imagine your filmmaking and screenwriting mean that you think visually which is really useful for the genre.
Congrats on winning that contest ... Years ago I came second in what was grandly called The World One-Day Novel Writing Cup ... it was just 30-odd scribblers frantically trying to write a novel over 24 hours in the Groucho Club, Soho, London. But the 20,000 words I wrote then became the basis of a book that got translated into half-a-dozen languages and made into a movie - a terrible German movie that no one ever saw, but even so ... Hope your win proves even more fortunate for you ... well, you did come first, after all, which I never did!
Well hi there Meredith! I lived pretty close to the School of Visual Arts on 23rd st. But that was sometime ago. I haven't been back to NYC for nearly 30 years!
Thank you for invite!
All the best.
Hi Meredith, thanks for the invitation. I loved The Third Man, especially that line about how the Swiss were so civilized and what did they produce, The cucoo clock!
Hello, fellow author,
Sounds like you've "made it" in the world of writing. Where we all aspire to be. I have two novels published, but I'm such a novice, I have no idea what I'm doing. Promoting myself and my books is hard work, and I'm completely in the dark. Agents are hard to get. It's like I have to be on the best seller list before I can get one interested.
Congratulations, Meredith.
Hi Meredith! I'm so glad that your heroine in POSED FOR MURDER hates yoga too! Whenever I take a yoga class in LA, everyone's so into it. I feel like I'm the only one thinking, as we assume our Awkward Chair poses, *um, do we look a little odd*?
Thank you for the invite. I am impressed with your background and success. I am fortunate to be learning from so many great writers. Some day perhaps, someone will say the same for me. I will buy your book.
What a great writing background. Do you know the month next year that your book will be out?
I'll be interested to hear some of your marketing plans.
I love NYC, I lived there in the 60s. Still love returning.

Hi Meredith,
Thanks for the invite. You may want to check out Dorothy Sayers. Lord Peter Wimsey is the ultimate elegant sleuth.

I know, I have your anthology for the March Docket. Let me know when you find out the month.
I see Margot is recommending Lord Peter to you. I'll second that and the newer books by a modern author that finished Sayers unfinished plus one.

Hi Meridith, so sorry it took so long to get back to you, I've been dragging my feet and have suddenly had a burst of 'New Year Enthusiasm'.
Good for you on getting your book published - there are so many inspiring people on this site - I really have no excuse not to get mine finished!
All the best for 2008, x
Meredith, Congrats on winning that contest and rest assured that it means your book was good. Best of luck to you when it hits the bookstores, I'll be looking for it. Meanwhile, I'd love to be your friend and look forward to following your successes. Keep writing.
Thanks for the friend request, Meredith! Looks like your first book will be coming out shortly before my second. I'll probably see you at some mystery con in 2009!
