Profile Information:

Hometown:
Kernersville, NC
About Me:
I have been a non-fiction writer for many years, but turned to novel writing in 2001. My frist mystery, Jilted By Death was published in 2004 by Silver Dagger Mysteries. A non-fiction book on writing came out in 2005 and a second novel, Duo of Opposites came out last year. I am now in the process of shopping around a crime novel.

Books And Authors I Like:
The author who first interested me in writing a mystery was Mary Higgins Clark, but I have been reading a lot of lesser known authors. My favorites change from time to time, but recently I've read wonderful books by Helen Goodman, p.m., terrell, Terry Hoover and Sharon Wildwind.
Movies And TV Shows I Like:
All series of Law & Order, Without a Trace, Jericho, and when I'm not in the mood for mystery I watch Deal or No-Deal or Desperate Housewifes. Most of the movies I see are with my 10 year old grandson. Lately it has been: Cars, Over the Hedge, Chicken Little, etc. I do plan to see Hog Wild because there is a motorcycle rider in my last book and I've been signing books at Harley Davidson Shops.

Ahhh fellow Silver Dagger author! Though I got my rights back recently from them. Moving on, no real reqrets (though it would've been nice to have the 2nd in the series published as promised). Welcome to Crimespace--it'll get your blood pumping, without doubt.
  • Lynette Hall Hampton

Hi Carolyn, I remember you from back when .... Silver Dagger was just getting ready to publish my book and you were very supportive. I'm glad I got my rights back too. The 2nd in my series is also done, but as you, I've moved on. Thanks for the welcome.
  • Carolyn Rogers

It's a real shame that SDM stopped pursuing mystery. I don't regret the experience though, not at all. It was fun, but I'm not that writer anymore, so I'm ready to work on different. What is up your sleeves? I've had a few years away from writing and am now pursuing my first history mystery. I'm about ready to dig in. What about you? Do you want to try and find another publisher or are you working on something different now?
  • Lori G. Armstrong

Thanks for the comment Lynette. And I'm proud to live in South Dakota, people who've never been here don't understand it. I see you sign at HD shops. Well, you really should read my books if you're a motorcycle enthusiast because I've got "real" bikers in my books since they're set outside of world famous Sturgis!

Hi Carolyn, Like you, I enjoyed my association with Silver Dagger and it is a shame to see them doing so few mysteries now. I was at a signing with Chipp (Daniel Bailey) a couple of weeks ago and they do plan to published his 3rd book this year. The second in my series has been done for 2 years and there is another small publisher interested in it. I will probably drop the series after this. I dibbled in romance and had a book come out last summer. It has done pretty well, but my heart is still in mystery. I have a new series with an agent. It is a little grittier than SD published. I'm keeping my fingers corssed.I admire you for turning to historical mystery. Most of my work is set in the present day. I guess I'm too lasy to do the research that an historical requires. Glad to see that you are getting back into writing because I enjoyed your SD book.
  • Carolyn Rogers

Ahhh well what a difference, a mystery "now and then" compared to how it once was. Ah well. I'm glad you found a home for #2. Yeah--just moving on in all kinds of ways. I wrote a little on my page about why I'm going this route. I may be nuts, but I gotta do it! Got to.

Glad Chipp is getting another book out--I am still disappointed. Sigh. It could've been so great.

Hi, Lynette.. thanks for the thumbs up on GUILT. It was fun to write. You're right, of course... there is no vacation from writing. It is a jealous mistress. Sometimes I wish it would leave me alone.
  • Miss DaMeaner

Congratulations on all of your books. (I love nonfiction, too, of course, but I'm glad your heart is still in mystery, where we can all enjoy its long and lustrous life!) You're an inspiration.
  • Miss DaMeaner

You are sweet and saucy, Lynette! You'd be soo great with a little chow mein. *evil grin* You're a lovely little dish.
  • A Brewster Smythe

I am really looking forward to the episode of Jericho this week. It was really exciting last week. Sad that April died but I figured they would probably do her in one way or the other. I think one of the best scenes from the whole show was when Sarah ( the ex-girlfriend of ??) killed her cohort by snapping his neck. Such quick action!
  • PJ Nunn

Thanks for your kind chatter on my page! I'm glad I've occasionally said something helpful - one never knows =)

    Hi Lynette,
Nice website. I, too was a non-fic writer--articles, that is, before trying my hand at novels. Best of luck with the crime novel.

Hi Lynette ... What on earth is a tar-heel? Some kind of bizarre, American, college-based sporting affiliation, I'll be bound. (!) Which I guess would make me a Light Blue. Tho' we Brits are far too bone-idle to go in for much college sport ... aside from competitive drinking and debauchery, of course.
Anyway, thank you so much for adding me to your list. Much appreciated!
  • Shirley Wells

Hi Lynette, and thanks for the invite. Good luck with finding a home for the crime novel.
  • Steven Dunne

    Hi Lynette
Best of luck from Britain with your crime novel.
  • Elysabeth Eldering

meet you at the Mystery Weekend in Greenwood, SC in 2005 - and saw you on someone else's page so added you - E :)
  • Tom Cain

You mean, Tarheels are so called because of some ancient, Brit-bashing episode? Hmmm ... can't say I approve of that!
  • Steven Dunne

Good question. Only over the internet I suspect. I'd be interested to know if you get any hits. I know Borders are in the process of stocking it so there might be a knock on effect. There's always Amazon.
    Best wishes.
  • Peg Herring

Nice to meet you, Lynette. Wishing you success with the newest book...waiting is the hardest part!

  • Camilla Trinchieri

I look forward to the Camilla book. I had a short story published by Silver Dagger-the anthology was called Criminal Appetites. We all included a recipe. I love cooking so that was the easy part.

Just read your A-Z tips for writers and I think your advice is so POSTIVELY helpful! Just wanted you to know that.
  • Larry & Barbara Payton

Lynnette, thanks for adding us. I (Larry) feel a little awkward on sites that indicate a writing specialty. Our first collaborative novel, The Ballad of Lacey Jay, is a crime novel, but is more of a psychological thriller. My wife, Barbara, was a romance novelist when we met, now we tend to be omniscribes. We'll write about anything. I'm working on an espionage thriller at present while Barbi's writing a ghost-story romance. I'm also trying to turn a western short story into period fiction built around western migration in the post-civil war era.

Other than that, I was a journalist early and a senior-level technical writer until I met Barbi. Things have never been the same!

We have alot Of TV series likes in common.I also like mary Higgins Clark and Patricia Cornwell, Kathy Reichs, Erica spindler as Authors.
  • carole gill

    You're so welcome!
You know it really did help me!
I stuck to my w.i.p. and now after three drafts, I'm revising and editing!
    Fabulous advice!
  • I. J. Parker

Hi, Lynette. How very nice to hear from you. Yes, I miss the old MWF also. Many nice people left when we switched. I'm okay. Writing another Akitada novel (# 8), revising the next one due out next summer (# 6), waiting to hear about some other books, but generally not all that hopeful. It's a terrible market.
How are you? ECHOES OF MERCY is a new one, isn't it? Congratulations and much good luck! Tell the others at MWF hello from me.
