Some very recent life changes have made it necessary for me to step into the work force after having been at home for twenty years. Yep. Starting over "fresh" at 43. (That's another story.)  I wanted to poll the writers here about their jobs in…Continue

About Me:
I've been published in a lot of "literary" zines. I am interested in reading and writing fiction that blurs the distinction between "literary" and "genre" categories.

I sometimes start blogs of original fiction under various pseudonyms (ie, below). Some pieces in my blogs are experimental, some are more conventional, just very short. Some are about crime, some are not.

Books And Authors I Like:
All fine writing, no matter the style or genre. I often like reading work that explores the darker side of human nature and the criminal/anti-social mindset. There is some of this in many writers' work, so I'll just list some favorite writers: Patricia Highsmith, Megan Abbott, Graham Greene, Vladimir Nabokov, Pablo D'Stair, Raymond Carver, Lucy Corin, Brian Evenson, Conrad Aiken, Flannery O'Connor, Joseph Conrad, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Edgar Alan Poe, and others.
Movies And TV Shows I Like:
TV: Wire in the Blood, George Gently, Law and Order (all of them), Justified, etc.

Some directors I especially like: Kubrick, Cohen Brothers, Hitchcock, David Lynch, Tim Burton

I love old movies. One of my favorites is Double Indemnity. I'm drawn to the movies with the femme fatale.

The first short story I published was about a crime. Another story recently published in Connotation Press was about a woman prone to blackmailing her bosses. And there may be a few more crime-oriented stories coming out in literary journals. Some work can be found on my current blog. (See link above.)

just been to your blog. I like your style. Elegant, smart, Hitchcockian.

I have a feeling you'll like this:

Hi Meg.

Thank you so much for ordering the book.  It's got some great reviews so far, so I'm hoping you enjoy it when it eventually arrives :)  Like you say, quite a while yet.

Warmest regards,

Ian

Hi Meg, Thank you for your request. Your profile is an interesting read. I agree that genre blurring with a literary feel moves me more than strict genre writing.

Thanks for the friendship, Meg - never met a Texan I didn't like.  Love your list of authors, too.

I was trying to comment on your blog but it wasn't cooperating. Anyway, I look forward to seeing your personal spin on the genre!
