since i turned fifty i've become possessed by some insane notion that i must write a mystery novel. i've written 380 pages of ms but have become totally and completely stuck. hoping that getting involved in a writers community will help me move forward and finish my novel.

How very good to reconnect! I'm on the west coast, teaching sculpture at the University of Victoria. It's a bit of a long story & perhaps not quite right for this forum (some slight irony in that sentence), but do you have a regular email address? I'm at Laskarin@uvic.ca and would really enjoy hearing what you've been doing for the past . . . 32 or so years.
Are you the Greta that I knew in Grimsby? That would be good. I've often wondered & would be very happy to know that you are writing a mystery novel. Since 50 or anyway.
sorry didn't see you wrote back to me.
it's a long hard slog--but let's keep slogging!
when I get stuck somewhere i literally write up a sheet wherein I discuss what's wrong and what needs to be done, then I go and edit it.
would that help?
try different things greta, you're nearly there!
I have two full drafts that I had to complete before I even got the story I wanted!
and I'll keep doing it. you too!
all the best.
Thanks, Carole. Nice to hear there is still hope for the book! After all that work I'd hate to have it just sit there uncompleted. It definitely needs some (a giant understatement!) rewriting too...
It moved me forward!
I came onto this site last year, and am on my third draft.
When I joined up in July 07, I didn't have a CLUE!
Had absolutely no idea what to write about even!
But coming on here and reading discussions and replying to them and starting your own--well! It does help Greta!
welcome and good look.
you came to the right place!

My true crime book was published by Dundurn last year. I suggested contacting them with your manuscript, at www.dundurn.com
Best,
