The Virginia Festival of the Book was as much fun this year as it has
been the last five. As always Saturday was a full day of watching
panels and greeting old pals, many of whom I never see except at
writing events. I had quite a pleasant group at my table for the
luncheon, and Julia Spencer-Fleming turned out to be an entertaining
keynote speaker.
Naturally the highpoint of the…

I like to share comments I receive about my work. Today I’d like to introduce you to Natalie Shaw.
I met Natalie at Borders Books in Waldorf a while ago. She wrote to me to say she enjoyed Russian Roulette and was sharing it with her book club. More importantly, she was the first reader to point out a continuity error in the book, which will be corrected in the next edition.
Thanks Natalie, for your…

I recently enjoyed two very successful book signings. Borders Express in Fair Oaks Mall had more traffic than expected, and the Borders in Baltimore Washington International airport was an even bigger surprise. I guess people were in the malls and travelling on what turned out to be Spring Break weekend for a lot of schools.
I was also flattered by a mention on the…

It’s hard to beat the fun and fellowship I have every year at the Bay to Ocean Writers Conference. This year was no exception. My presentation on the basics of plot was well received and I got to critique some really impressive manuscripts. I’ve already put in my bid to speak again next year.
In other news, my latest review was published in The Big Thrill, the newsletter of the International Thriller Writers. I got to write about , Keith Thomson's debut novel “Once A Spy”…

A lot has happened since my last update. For one thing I had a couple of successful book signings. I ended last year at the Borders Express in White Marsh Mall and started this year at Borders in Dulles Airport. It was after the big storms we’ve had on the East Coast, but lots of people were still stuck which was good for book sales.…

This is an oddly Hallmark Holiday, and frankly I don't understand why Cupid was chosen to represent it. When I think about romance, the last thing on my mind is a short, chubby toddler coming at me with a weapon.
Instead, I look at my lovely wife Dee (who has stuck with me for a decade of marriage) and think of the oddly twisting trail we have blazed together. It reminds me that loving is not just looking at each…
