Goodreads, The G-ZONE and the stuff I read

I have been getting some questions lately about my Goodreads account: Why do some of the novels in your “currently reading” area stay there for so long? Pretty simple really: I don’t like to post on a novel until after I interview the author. I have been fortunate to have had on some great guests on my blogtalk show The G-ZONE, just incredible awesome people and interviews. I am fortunate that many of them have such a great time they want to return. I also am fortunate to make some new…

Brad Thor Full Black

I wanted to start the week off with this; it sizzles. I have been a Brad Thor fan since his first novel and have enjoyed his work ever since. Apparently there are many others like me out there; his popularity just seems to soar with each new novel. “Full Black” is a major political statement and commentary on our way of life. Do I agree with all of it? Hey I was taught not to discuss politics and religion when I am talking to friends so I am staying away from that. The novel was a barnburner…

Been wrestling with the plot of DI Andy Horton crime novel number eight and finally won after several exhausting rounds

I’ve spent the weekend wrestling with the plot of the DI Andy Horton crime novel I’m currently writing, which is number eight in the series, and I’m pleased to say that I finally won after several rounds.  The outcome is looking satisfactory.  It may seem strange to someone who doesn’t write novels and in particular crime novels that I have…

Discovered Vial of Serial Killer’s Blood May Connect More Victims

My area of specific interest may be forensic psychology, but I am fascinated by forensics in all of its applications.  I am regularly amazed by how experts can use a piece of clothing, a strand of hair, or a few drops of blood to build a case.  It was recently reported that forensic evidence stored in…

The Power of The Written Word & Brownie Nut Fudge Ice Cream.

This is some serious stuff. I have read many times in many places the power of the written word: The pen is mightier than the sword kind of thing but never paid it much mind till yesterday. I admit it, I took a mental health day yesterday; we went to the shore had some fun in the sand and the surf. I didn’t even play bocce; I was too busy with some of my kids and grandkids. Sunburn is not my friend right now. What happened after I got fried is the neat part.

We went for ice cream, to…

Re LA Review of Books site

Folks just a note: the LA Review of Books (not the Los Angeles Times review of books) at www.lareviewofbooks.org has some very good writing content on it. Currently Rohan Maitzen has an item called "Martin Beck Has A Cold", an examination of the ten-book Sjowall/Wahloo series. Definitely worth a read, and a scroll through other essays on the site are illuminating. Lee Lamothe

Around the Globe with ELIZABETH KOLODZIEJ

Yeah, I know, I couldn't pronounce her name either. On our way to a spot away from the main crowds on a southern Italian beach, this week's author taught me how to say her name. After a few tries, she congratulated me on my efforts. So, now I get to teach all of you how to properly say her name. Ready? Let's try it together... Ee-liz-uh-beth. Very good. Oh, her surname?… Continue

Your Call Is Very ImporatntTo Us

“We’re about out of time.”  Yeah, and “your call is very important to us.”  Sure it is. Know any doctors like that, maybe (or maybe not) driven there by Obamacare and the insurance industry? Know any political leaders like that, driven there by…their own greed?

Those who would try to sell you a bill of goods on how great Obamacare is focus on how many millions more are insured today–and why those who enacted it should be re-elected in 2012, and forever after– by those millions.  Who…

The Private Detective Inside Me

In the late 1970s, working as a journalist for a New York syndicate I went down to Murrell’s Inlet, South Carolina to interview the legendary mystery writer, Mickey Spillane.

Beginning in 1947, Spillane wrote a series of hard-boiled paperback novels starring a tough-as-nails private detective named Mike Hammer. Titles such as Vengeance Is Mine and I, The Jury and My Gun Is Quick sold in excess of 180 million copies and…

Brattleboro: Vermont's Hotbed Of Fictional Crime

Brattleboro, Vt., is a bucolic town — pricked with picturesque church steeples — and home to a vibrant arts community. So it's an unlikely setting for gruesome murder and gritty crime, but that's just what goes on in Archer Mayor's Brattleboro-based Joe Gunther detective series.

Mayor is something of an unlikely character himself. Never mind his New England blue blood background — Mayor has had some grisly jobs. He works as a death examiner for the state's medical office and…

Real locations made fictional-the setting for crime writer Pauline Rowson's DI Horton Marine Mystery Crime Novels

With the paperback and Kindle versions of Footsteps on the Shore being published in August and September respectively I thought I'd post some photographs of the area where this DI Andy Horton novel is set. I posted some in January when the hardcover was published but…

Putting On the Ritz…and Pretenses

Perhaps outquoted only by Winston Churchill, the undisputed champion, Thomas Jefferson is nevertheless a very close second.  One of his more famous remarks, certainly still apt today, was an admonition to we the people to “prevent the government from wasting [the] labors of [we] the people under the pretense of taking care of them.” (emphasis added)

Have you noticed all the media pictures of our political “leaders” yesterday and today, happy, smiling, patting…
