Hi LJ. Thanks for the invite. I have your book on Mt. TBR.

I'm not a fan of Will Ferrell either. I can laugh myself silly over Monty Python or some of the Coen Brothers' works, but Ferrell's stuff leaves me cold and unmoved. The Princess Bride is a favorite of mine too, one we watch frequently. I thought the first Bill and Ted adventure was really funny too.
"Denny Crain"!

Sure, I know Madge Walls! We're both on the board of the Rocky Mtn. chapter of Sisters in Crime. She's Newsletter Editor and I'm Secretary--and food coordinator for our hospitality suite at Left Coast Crime. Thanks for the friend request!

Well, I hope you've assigned it a "virtual" spot on the list, so that it's moving up even in its absence!

If your Mount TBR is like mine, you'd appreciate a cartoon I saw some time back in the Wall Street Journal: Two people talking at a cocktail party. One says to the other "I'm an avid amasser of reading material."

Yeah...I even get around to reading a lot of it. Eventually.

Thanks for the friend invite. What a controversial book cover - Love it! Oh and I see we share an appreciation for Bill Maher. Saw him perform at Comedy & Magic Club a couple years ago - unforgettable performance.

He seemed that way to me. And he got right to the business of funny. I realize now why he succeeded when his warm up guy failed. In a few lines about local hardy immigrant stock and the snow and the cold, CF made us feel good about living in northern Wisconsin in the middle of an old fashioned winter. But his warm-up comic used geography and weather to mock the crowd.

Just returned from a stand up comic. Craig Ferguson was performing at a nearby casino. His warm up act was one of his writers and the poor guy was a mess. I think he had been warned that the early show audinece would be a bunch of thin skinned, knitting grannies. He stuttered and stumbled through his act searching for ways not to be himself. The audience was no help. We drove over for the show, but people around us had been there quite a while and were plastered. Ferguson was great and very comfortable with the constraints. Have to be to so a monologue on CBS every night. I think writing would be easier than trying to be somebody I'm not in front of 300 blue hairs, drunks, and early birds.

Hi LJ,

Thanks for the … friending. It’s a usage I still find odd.

Non-Aussies most welcome here – Oregonians especially. Occasionally I may slip into Ozspeak but I’m sure you will cope. Tried to reply earlier but messed it up as I was a bit fuzzy, succumbing to the dreaded Lurgi and feeling crook as Rookwood. The dreaded Lurgi covers any unidentified, probably transient, flu-like symptom. To be ‘crook’ is to be unwell and since Rookwood is a major Sydney cemetery I’m sure you can make the connection.
‘Crook as Rookwood’ a great old Aussie expression was used by Chris Nyst as a title before I could get my hands on it. Bastard! We also use bastard a lot, more often than not as a term of affection.

I found the cover of The Sex Club somewhat disturbing and I guess that was the intention. Definitely a pick-up-off-shelf-and-read-the-back-cover item. How is it selling?

Novelist, editor AND stand up comic? Bet you’re always on the lookout for hecklers with bad grammar.

Best wishes.

Geoff

WOW! My spell check has Oregonians.

Yes, John D. MacDonald, a classic in his day, but re-reading with modern sensibilites make him seem like a male chauvanist in the sense that a modern grandfather seems to be.

Thanks for sharing, LJ. I hope that people in recovery, codependents, and ACOAs as well as mystery lovers will get a kick out of DEATH WILL GET YOU SOBER. I wanted to show the courage and honesty of alcoholics who find recovery and also convey some of the wit and laughter that a lot of people don't realize is part of recovery too. Liz

A living?
I think many of us have come to realise we write because we absolutely have to; and not to make money. We continue to dream however...

Thanks for the comment and the add. Yes, I'm still in law enforcement. I currently work as the Chief Investigator for a DA's Office here in Louisiana.

I agree 100% with Alison -- you're cover is awesome.

Take care,
