Greetings from those of us who are working to make this year’s MWA Hardboiled Heroes & Cozy Cats conference the best ever. From time to time, we’ll be letting you know about some of the particulars of the program, which runs Friday through Sunday, June 15th, 16th and 17th at The Radisson Hotel at Mockingbird Station, Dallas, Texas.
This week’s mailing focuses on our special program and guest speaker for Friday night. Toby Shook, former Dallas County Assistant District Attorney, will speak on “Crime & Punishment – Texas Style.”
In his 23 years as an assistant district attorney Mr. Shook tried more than 300 cases, including 21 death penalty cases, and earned a reputation as one of the nation’s top prosecutors. Among his well-known cases are the successful prosecutions of Darlie Routier, the Texas Seven prison escapees and serial killer Charles Albright. He has received a number of awards from legal associations and has made numerous appearances on national news programs; including 48 hours, HBO’s Autopsy, A&E’s Cold Case Files, and American Justice.
It’s not too early to register for the conference. Costs are $125 for members, $135 for non-members, and that includes lunch on Friday and Saturday. For $35, you can enjoy Saturday-night dinner and entertainment. For a reasonable fee you can submit for the short story contest, and at low cost you can sign up for the fast-pitch contest and coaches corner. There are also chances to meet with an agent or editor.
Vist the chapter website at
www.mwasw.org for details about the conference and registration information.
Looking forward to seeing you at the conference.
