So that’s it, I’m a published author. Okay, fanfares did not herald the arrival of Out of Bounds, neither did the world cease to move and…

Pauline Rowson explains how she researches British police procedure for her crime novels

I'm often asked how I research my crime novels and in particular the police procedure and crime scene investigation side of things. I'm not married to a police officer or a former police officer (although I am married to a former fire-fighter) so I don't have inside knowledge except when it comes to fires, burnt bodies and serious road and other incidents which fire fighters attend, and they can all be incorporated into a crime novel, which indeed I have done.

So where do I…

Misogynistic, or Picky?

Egomaniac that I am, I publish an annual list of what I thought were the best books I read each year, as if anyone else gives a shit. In 2012 the list contained no female authors. This was a genuine surprise to me when pointed out—I honest to God hadn’t noticed—but it got me to thinking. Since then I have made a conscious…

The Past Never Ends Available for 99 Cents

Deadly Niche Press has, for a limited time, lowered the price of the Kindle and Nook versions of my legal mystery, The Past Never Ends, to 99 cents.

Author and CrimeSpace member Dana King writes in his review of the book, "What makes this book stand out for me is Burnett's deft handling of the courtroom scenes. Don't expect to see Perry Mason breaking down a lying witness. The trial scenes are understated, but riveting, and advance the plot in oblique ways. Burnett trusts his…

Adult Truth #13

#13I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page technical report that I swear I did not make any change to.”

Yeah...I get this a lot on my documents. I'm tempted to hit Control-Z so it will erase any change I supposedly had made, but that scares me even more.

This truth made me think of note taking and how I change not only…
