Nature of the Beast...Maybe...

Looking at the literary business it's a lot like the street game...people make promises they have no intention of keeping but I can't get mad. Liars have to lie I guess. Now obviously this bothers me a little which is why I'm even blogging about it but after this I won't mention it again. Maybe. I'll just keep my word and let the liars lie..."Ron, I'm going to do ----, I'm going to do ----" LOL Whatever....no you're not....

TODAY'S EXAMINER COLUMN CREDITS SCREENWRITER'S FOR THE POPULARITY OF TWO AND A HALF MEN

Today I was compelled to write about the nonsense surrounding the Charlie Sheen circus. Two and a Half Men, while not a mystery, is the product of very clever screenwriters and production staff, now out of work because of one man's ego.

Read what I had to say about it today and watch the funny video, "A World Without Writers." Comments right in the box at the end of the column…

Blake Crouch

I've known Blake Crouch for a number of years - we both wrote novels for St. Martins/Minotaur, and we've met at Bouchercons. I've been a fan since reading his first book Desert Places and if I want to be seriously creeped out, I turn to Blake's writing. He's also been collaborating with Joe Konrath with… Continue

How to Write a "Great" Agent Query!

I no longer have to write query letters to agents.

That part of my life is over. I have a great agent now and plan on spending the rest of my life with him. I can't tell you how happy that makes me.

I wasn't always good at writing agent query letters. It took a lot of practice honing the essential information I needed to include in the letter and to be…

Beth Groundwater Deadly Currents

White water rafting anyone?  The novel itself moves like a category five: raging, foaming, and churning all the way to the end. Hold on to the covers of this novel, the pages turn quickly, as racing through this whodunit is not an option. Beth herself will be stopping by the blog on occasion today to check comments so she can respond to them, so feel free to ask away. Enough already, what is between the covers on this one:

“The Arkansas River is the heart and soul of Salida, Colorado.…

Crawling Home

Yesterday marked the end of Peg's Blog Crawl, a February-long tour of 21 blog sites with 17 different hosts.

What I learned: it's a lot of work.

What it means: hopefully, that some new people know my name and are interested in  THE DEAD DETECTIVE AGENCY.

Now here's the shocker: the book's release has been delayed until April 1 of this year.

I know, I know. Most of the people who read my…

A Salute to Editors, Part 1

This week, I present part one of an interview I did with Kat Thompson, former senior editor at Echelon Press. Although since she first sent me the email leting me know Echelon had accepted two of my novels for publication, and since she graciously agreed to an interview, she has stepped back from major editing duties. However, as a guide and advisor, she possesses skills and talents from which all writers may benefit.

1. Who is Kat Thompson? Tell me a little about yourself. What one… Continue
