I Won! Why Do I Care?

They'll tell you that awards mean nothing. No big sales surge. No extra attention from publishers and agents. No movie deals. Got it. Nevertheless, when I got word yesterday that I won Best Mystery of the Year with THE DEAD DETECTIVE AGENCY, I forgot all that and succumbed to joy. Somebody--whether several or dozens or hundreds or hordes of somebodies--thinks my book is worth…

Author Update

The Barnes and Noble on the Northern Virginia Community College Annandale campus is the biggest campus bookstore I’ve ever seen. My book signing there was a great event: I had fun and signed several books. Naturally I’m looking forward to the next time.

Different Strokes for Different Folks

I’m a morning person. Most days, as soon as I wake up, I’m alert and ready to start my day. After coffee, of course. That’s why I choose to write in the morning; I’m fresh and at my best. When I’m writing, whether it’s the first draft of a manuscript or a rewrite, I focus on that. I don’t even check my email or answer my phone until I’m satisfied that I’ve produced the day’s writing. It’s…

It's been a while

I'd almost forgotten about this place completely. A pleasant surprise to find it still here and thriving despite my callous neglect.

I shall be embarking on some blatant self-promotion shortly, but because I'm not a total dick, I'll try not to be too unsubtle about it. For now, I'll just say I've got an eBook out, and here's a picture of its cover:…
