Donald Hamilton, 1916-2006

Just read the news over at Mystery*File that Donald Hamilton is gone.
So damn sad. I went through a serious Hamilton phase in Fall 2001,
where I tracked down and devoured the first dozen Matt Helm adventures,
back to back. I'm pretty sure it was Ed Gorman who said that JFK was a
weenie because he preferred James Bond to Matt Helm; I'm inclined to
agree. Forget the Dean Martin movies; look at the original novels.… Continue

Thanksgiving in April

As if I needed any more reason to want to see Grindhouse as soon as humanly possible... here's comes this twisted little bit o' sickness from Eli Roth, the creator of such life-affirming movies as Cabin Fever and Hostel. It's a faux trailer for a slasher flick calledContinue

Why I Never Changed My Name

(Simulcast at secretdead.blogspot.com.)

"Duane Swierczynski" is quite a handle, isn't it? But hey, don't blame me. I've tried to change it before. Throughout my senior year of high
school I submitted short horror stories to whatever markets I could
find, including markets way out of my grubby little immature reach.
Markets like

Say Everything?

(Simulcast at secretdead.blogspot.com.)

It's been a while since I read a piece that split me down the middle. Such was the case with Emily Nussbaum's "Say Everything," in this week's
New York
magazine. Nussbaum details what she calls the new generation gap: kids,
teenagers and 20somethings who think

I have read all three of your books and truly enjoyed every damned one of them. Oddly enough, I "saw" each book in graphic form, especally The Wheelman, which, to me, was in black and white. The other two were "in color" but graphic, nonethe less.

Other than your novels, there has been only one other book that felt like I was watching an animated film as I read it:The Haven by Somebody Diamond....Richard? I don't know.

At any rate, thanks for the books....I love this genre and have been toying with the idea of trying to write a story of my own...a thought I never had, avid reader though I am...until I happened upon the " Hard Crime", "Dark Noir"...or whatever this genre is called.

Oh, Beat the Reaper was excellent!

Now, write something else!

Hey - got here via the links in Sarah's column. Sorry about the surgery. That stuff just all sucks. Read some Willeford (the one place, i think, we come together). Unless laughing will make it hurt more.

Hi Duane. Yes talking with you this afternoon was a blast. Thanks again for your time. I forgot to mention another book you might like, Hack/Slash from Devils Due Publishing. It's a horror/humor book for people who like good horror movies and love bad ones. There's currently two trades out.
