Jeannie Holmes -- Dark Urban Fantasy Author

BLOOD LAW

Alexandra Sabian, vampire and Enforcer with the Federal Bureau of Preternatural Investigation, moved to Jefferson to escape the memory of her father's unsolved murder and a life filled with violence. Now a killer stalks the streets of the small town. When three vampires are brutally murdered in the same manner as her father, the deaths resurrect the ghosts buried in Alex's past, along with a love she thought she left behind.

When the heart of the vampire community is targeted by a hate group and Alex's brother is kidnapped, the media frenzy threatens to derail both the investigation and Alex's career -- not to mention her sanity.

Alex must find the strength to face her past and save both the local vampire community and her brother before the escalating tensions between humans and vampires turn Jefferson's streets crimson with blood.

About Me:
I'm originally from Smithdale, MS, (a town so small it's often absent from state maps) and I write dark urban fantasy and supernatural suspense novels, which are best described as "Lisa Gardner meets Anne Rice." My first novel, BLOOD LAW, was sold to Bantam Dell as part of a two book deal and will published May 25, 2010.

I'm a member of International Thriller Writers, Mystery Writers of America, Romance Writers of America, Sisters in Crime, International Order of Horror Professionals, and the Association for Gravestone Studies, an organization dedicated to preserving historic cemeteries.

I've had a short story -- BIG RED: A LOVE STORY -- and a nonfiction essay -- SOMETHING BORROWED -- published in ORACLE, a fine arts review journal published by the University of South Alabama. I also had a nonfiction essay -- NUGGET'S STORY -- published in the anthology WRITING MOBILE BAY: THE HURRICANE PROJECT and was selected to read a portion of my essay during the Alabama Book Festival in April 2006. Excerpts from these can be found on my website under the "Books" section.

When I'm not writing, I'm always on the prowl for the perfect megahugebighonkin'ginormous cup of coffee -- white chocolate mochas are my absolute favorite. I hold Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in English with an emphasis in creative writing from the University of South Alabama. Currently, I live in Mobile, Alabama with my husband and four neurotic cats.

The Novel Formerly Titled CRIMSON SWAN

As often happens in publishing, book titles change. Why they change can vary and really unimportant in the grand scheme. What matters is that the title is memorable and reflects the story unfolding between the covers. With that said, my debut novel has undergone a title change and I couldn't be more excited...

CRIMSON SWAN is now officially titled BLOOD LAW!

Title changes aren't made lightly and without due consideration. Changing to BLOOD LAW is a… Continue

Holy book deals, Batman!

My agent called today. CRIMSON SWAN has sold!!

WOOOOHOOOOOOOOO!!!!

My first novel...my first major book deal... to quote Mater from Walt Disney's Cars, "I'm happier than a tornado in a trailer park!"

Don't know dates yet, but I'll keep everyone up to speed on the developments. I'm so excited right now, I don't think I can sleep. :-)

99 pages down -- 401 to go

I'm still waiting to hear a decision from the editor on CRIMSON SWAN. The suspense in killing me, but I'm trying very hard not to dwell on it. For that reason -- and others such as I actually want to graduate in December -- I've been working on HELLFIRE, my creative thesis.

As of 3:00 AM, May 19, 2008, I have revised and written 99 pages in 2 weeks. Only 401 to go to finish the book. Thankfully, I only have to present 125-150 pages as my thesis this fall. My committee won't read the… Continue

Paradise Lost meets La Femme Nikita

I know...it's been forever and a day since I updated this thing. I'm still working on re-write/edit of CRIMSON SWAN. Illness, holidays, and the start of a new semester slowed me down, but the end is in sight. Yay! Most of my time lately has been divided between the edits and working on my creative thesis. I'm scheduled to graduate with my MA this fall, so I'm actively writing and editing my thesis, HELLFIRE.

I could have used CRIMSON SWAN as my thesis, but I wanted to challenge… Continue

A New Year and A New Re-write

First of all...Happy New Year to everyone! May you have peace, prosperity, happiness, and a best seller in the new year.

I'm knee-deep in yet another re-write/round of edits on CRIMSON SWAN. After six months of "I love it but it's not right for our list right now"-rejections, a senior editor with one of the top publishing houses in NY gave my agent detailed feedback on what she liked and what she thought needed improving. She also said she'd be…

Early Endorsements for “A Circle of Souls”

Linda Fairstein, NYT Bestselling Author: "A fascinating debut - this novel takes the reader to the darkest places in the human soul, from a writer with the authenticity to lead us there. A stunning thriller and an important read."

Judge Judy Sheindlin, star of the Judge Judy Show: "The seminal work of this fine author kept me glued to my chair until the adventure was over and the mystery solved. A great read!"

Book Synopsis:

The sleepy town of Newbury, Connecticut, is shocked when a little girl is found brutally murdered. The town s top detective, perplexed by a complete lack of leads, calls in FBI agent Leia Bines, an expert in cases involving children.

Meanwhile, Dr. Peter Gram, a psychiatrist at Newbury s hospital, searches desperately for the cause of seven-year-old Naya Hastings devastating nightmares. Afraid that she might hurt herself in the midst of a torturous episode, Naya s parents have turned to the bright young doctor as their only hope.

The situations confronting Leia and Peter converge when Naya begins drawing chilling images of murder after being bombarded by the disturbing images in her dreams. Amazingly, her sketches are the only clues to the crime that has panicked Newbury residents. Against her better judgment, Leia explores the clues in Naya s crude drawings, only to set off an alarming chain of events.
In this stunning psychological thriller, innocence gives way to evil, and trust lies forgotten in a web of deceit, fear, and murder.

Dr. Who, the old or the re-make?
I didn't mind the old (English guy version).
Vampires are interesting and so are the stories, and how different people tell them. Even Nora Roberts has a vampire type story. The title eludes me right now.
Good luck to you.

Thanks for the invite. I know what you mean about editing. I get to the point where I physically cannot look at the manuscript anymore. Good luck with it though.

Thanks for the invite JK, love paranormal and SF, fantasy and horror are iffy, so always looking for a good variation. May we both have good luck with the publishing industry in 2008.

Hi! Thanks for adding me to your line-up of friends, J.K. I look forward to finding out more about you and your work (which sounds right up my alley). I hope you’ll check out my new thriller, IM, about a serial killer preying on gay men using Internet hookup sites.

It is taking a bit to know the ins and outs of this site, andI think that I may be double-posting in the friends' department. My expertise will improve with time. Now I am enjoying looking at all the authors with their published books. I am not into vampires, but I am an animal lover--dogs over cats, but I have a friend a year older than I who adores cats and is a mystery fan. Thanks for your friendship.
