Invitation to Observe the 42nd Anniversary of David Goodis's Death - Graveside

"January Cold came in from two rivers, formed four walls around Hart and closed in on him." --Black Friday

Dear Goodisheads:
The night of January 25 is the anniversary of the death of David Loeb Goodis according to the Hebrew Calendar. In honor of the Great Philadelphia Noir Writer, Louis Boxer and Aaron Finestone are planning a gathering to remember David Goodis on the afternoon of January 25 at Roosevelt Memorial Park, 2701 Old Lincoln Highway, Trevose, PA 19053.
The grave is located at Section B-3, Lot 324, Grave 3.
We are thinking of a ceremony at 2 p.m. followed by a gathering at a nearby restaurant.

1. If you would be interested in attending, would you please email me (microbrewjournalism@gmail.com). Your email would not be binding. We just want to be able to give an estimate to the restaurant.

2. If you would be willing to lead the traditional Jewish Prayers (Kaddish, El-Molay Rachamim, etc.) please let me know.

3. At graveside, we will read excerpts from David Goodis' coldest, most gripping works.

What better way to spend a cold January afternoon.

Looking forward to seeing you January 25.

Retreat To Goodisville 2012

It's official; my partner in crime Lou Boxer has booked the bus, and we're finalizing the itinerary. What used to be a humble graveside tribute to Philly noir legend David Goodis has blossomed into a full-on noir adventure on wheels we're calling, "Retreat to Goodisville."

Here's the deal: at 10 a.m., Saturday January 7th, 2012 (the 45th anniversary of Goodis's death) we'll be meeting just outside The Lost Bar of Atlantis, 2442 Frankford Avenue. A coach bus will take 30…

NoirCon 2012 honors Lawrence Block and Otto Penzler

I’m often asked a simple question: What is NoirCon

The answer isn’t so simple.

Noir tells the stories of tortured souls—losers, psychopaths, obsessives—driven down deadly paths, following desperate plans that are doomed to failure.

Fans of Noir are drawn to these stories. And every two years, NoirCon draws these fans to Philadelphia for a weekend devoted to examining some of the darkest—most noirish—aspects of…

Lou, the Goodis film arrived in yesterday's post (how's that for a Brit expression), and I look forward to watching it. Many thanks. Will follow up with a review.

Lou, thanks for your quick reply. Yes, would love to have a look at the DG documentary. I hosted a series for the Lowell Public Library on classic noir writers--including, of course, Hammett, Chandler, Goodis, Thompson, Highsmith, et al. Mailing address is 15 Stratton Hill Rd., Westford, MA 01886. NoirCon 2010 is ambitious and enticing! Good looking site. Will definitely consider it.
