Around the Globe with BETH SOLHEIM

Brr! Single digit temps and my most recent interview is in Minnesota. Not just Minnesota, but northern Minnesota. At least Ms. Solheim offered me a large mug of hot chocolate before settling in for the round of questions. But I'm graeful she took time to sit with me for awhile. (And I even shoveled her walk afterwards...just kidding. I actually accepted another hot chocolate, then shoveled her walk.)

1. Who is Beth Solheim and what makes you the most fascinating person in your city?… Continue

Bestselling teeth for Writers

A few years ago, I was at dinner with an American couple who were friends of mine. I had known them a while, but there was something odd about them that night. When they spoke, I was slightly dazzled. I paid more attention to his jokes, even though I had heard most of them before. She was suddenly very attractive.
I couldn’t work out what it was that had transformed them. Then I saw it. “Your teeth are very white,” I said.
“Crest White Strips,” they both responded,…

Besides writing, what's your favorite thing to do?

I love old cars, and have a 1946 MG.  The steering wheel is on the right, since it was made in Merry Olde England.  It's a little slow by today's standards, but in 1946 was a state of the art sports car.  Convertible top (hood, in England) two seats, a hood (bonnet) that stretches out forever, and comes with a crank to start it when the battery goes dead.

What's your pleasure?

Hello CrimeSpace

Nice place you've got here.

I like the antique electric-chair collection.

Mind if I look around a little bit?

Glastonbury has been nominated for Best Mystery Novel and Requiem for the Ripper is in the Best Thriller section.

I Quit--Does That Make Me a Bad Person?

I gave up on the second of the GIRL WITH/WHO series.

Yup.

I just don't care.

It's hard for me to like a protagonist who is so weird, so amoral, so flat.

It's irritating to me that someone did not edit out the thousands of details that (I guess) are supposed to add to the story but instead draw it out. I don't care how many T-shirts, cups, chairs, and bedsheets the woman bought.

I seldom like the "I'll get that person if it's the last thing I ever do" plotline.

I will… Continue

Get Inspired

Maryland novelist B. Swangin Webster writes stories that deal with the real-world issues confronting 21st century women. Like her books, Webster is encouraging and inspiring, as her guest blog today makes clear o my main blog, Another Writer's Life.http://ascamacho.blogspot.com

Kindles offer Endless Possibilties for Authors/Readers/Publishers

Remember the days when you'd sign a major contract, get a big ass check in the mail, and just spend a year or so partying like a rock star in New York or Los Angeles or Lincoln, Nebraska for that matter? There was nothing else to do because after all, your book probably wouldn't be hitting the shelves until at least a year from contract execution.

I remember my original editor for…
