My Guest Blog Today

In conjunction with Bouchercon - THE mystery fan's event of the year - I was invited to be a guest blogger on Read Street, the Baltimore Sun's book blog. My entry about African American private investigators went up yesterday. I promise it will be interesting, so please read my guest blog, and leave me a comment.
Thanks!

My novel

After a huge decision to stop the current work on my book, and ask for my rights back, and the turmoil of all that, I have good news to report!

Avenging Angel has been contracted by Red Rose Publishing *http://www.redrosepublishing.com* and will be a 2009 release!

I hope you will plan to get it when it is available, and of course, I will keep you posted!

What's New for October

Hi, everyone. I put up the October WHAT'S NEW page on my website. Among other things, I include a fascinating discovery I made about the Rambo apple (yes, Rambo's name comes from an apple) and the American folk hero Johnny Appleseed. David

Countdown to Bouchercon-2 days!

(Cross Posted to Writing, etc)

I have a Sisters in Crime meeting tonight and a dentist appointment tomorrow afternoon, so I have very limited time to get stuff done before leaving on Wednesday.

Over on Working Stiffs, Wilfred is blogging today about his busy week ahead. I think a lot of us who are headed to Baltimore are feeling the… Continue

Too punny not to share

Being a lover of word play I had to smile when I came upon this headline:

Energizer Bunny arrested - charged with battery.

Delicious! And a great reminder that playing with the language doesn’t have to serve any purpose. A good pun is its own reword.

London Calling

I’m off to the Society of Authors AGM in London today. I’ve been a member for almost ten years and although I don’t get to attend every meeting or function I have used the society’s extremely helpful service on publishing copyright and contracts. The SOA has (as its web site declares) been serving the interests of professional writers for more than a century, and has more than 8,500 members writing in all areas of the profession. These include novelists, textbook writers, ghost writers,… Continue

No Longer Fishing

Which means I'm back. Strangely, after three weeks of limited internet access, I haven't had much of a desire to get back in the cyber-swing of things.

Right now, I'm pretty happy playing lots of guitar. Witness the latest addition to my tools of procrastination:

Author Update

Today I had a very nice, though short signing at Borders in Waldorf. It was scheduled to go from noon to 4 pm but I had signed all the copies of Blood and Bone they had by 2:30. My friends in Maryland definitely support me better than the home state crowd.

On line, friends have reported sightings of my new book trailer for Blood and Bone on half a dozen popular web sites including Blip TV, Readers entertainment TV, Clever, Revver, Mefedia and of course YouTube. Let me know if you see… Continue

All Points West To Alaska

Well, it's time to dust off the old blog in preparation for my upcoming trip to Bouchercon in Baltimore and then on to Alaska (well, it was a good excuse since Baltimore is on the way to Alaska, right?)

When I told my mum I was going to be going back she said "Will you be doing that BLUG thingy again?" So… Continue

Weekly Blog - Monday 6th October

First of all, I’d like to offer a big shout out to Jo Nape, one of the DJ’s at Future Radio, who gave Justice For All a few healthy plugs on his Saturday evening show last week. Future Radio is a community radio station based in Norwich that broadcasts on 96.9FM and via its website, www.futureradio.co.uk., and I’d like to thank Jo for his kind support.

On the writing front, I had another great week working on the third novel in the Zac Hunter series, ‘The Beholder,’ knocking out… Continue

A very successful event

The Women Into Business conference went really well. Seventy women turned up across all age ranges some who were already running businesses and others who were about to start, or were thinking of running their own business. It was a very inspiring morning with speakers including yours truly. I was delighted to talk to so many of the women there and pass on any tips and advice about marketing and building a business. And I was thrilled that so many… Continue

Author Fair by Margot Justes

I had the pleasure of attending an Author Fair at the Joliet Public Library. No idea what to expect, nevertheless, I was prepared, books and promo material was all I needed. Once I walked in, I was very well taken care of; a smiling staff member showed me to my table; my name in a frame and balloons on said table made for a very pleasant welcome.

It was an unusual format, tables were set up everywhere in the library, every corner, every empty space was occupied. It allowed the people… Continue

Countdown to Bouchercon-4 days

(Cross posted to Writing, etc.)

I think I’ve posted about this before, but I get homesick before I actually leave for a trip. Once I’m on the road, especially once I’m out of my normal stomping grounds, I shift into vacation mode. But during the last week or so before heading out, anxiety strikes. Big time.

So that’s where I am right now. It puts a damper on my pre-Bouchercon… Continue

Today's off. Tomorrow's ON

Yesterday I told you I had a signing at a Virginia Barnes and Noble, but they failed to order books in time so don’t go there looking for me.

Tomorrow I’ll return to the full size Borders in Waldorf. From noon to 4 pm we’ll have a chance to see if my Maryland friends support me better than the Virginia crowd. This Borders is at 3304-A Crain Highway.

The Day the Penis asked for a Raise

I, the Penis, hereby request a raise in salary for the following reasons:

I do physical labor.

I work at great depths.

I plunge headfirst into everything I do.

I do not get weekends or public holidays off.

I work in a damp environment.

I work in a dark workplace that has poor ventilation.

I work in high temperatures.

My work exposes me to contagious diseases.

Sincerely, P. Niss

Strangers or History?

A thought came to me earlier today so I'm blogging about it. Do you like a story where the hero and heroine don't know each other or do you like a story where they have history together?

I'm in VA tomorrow!

Tomorrow I make a are stop at the Barnes and Noble Booksellers in Westgate Plaza. I’ll be there from 1 pm to 3 pm signing my novels and I hope my friends in the Manassas, VA area will stop by to let Barnes and Noble know they’re missing out by not booking me more often.
