Graphic Novel Friday The Adventures of Unemployed Man

I enjoy reading graphic novels for many reasons and The Adventures of Unemployed Man is a prime example. It takes the basic premise that the economy is bad right now, but incrementally worse if you are the one

laid off and without a job. The graphic novel does its job through incredibly

sarcastic humor and a poignant narrative that is bound to hit home with those

that are struggling and those that are rich and cruising along. No one goes

away unscathed…

Romantic Wednesday Barbara Briggs Ward The Reindeer Keeper

Although the title and cover of this book lead you to believe this is just another Christmas Story, The Reindeer Keeper is so much more. It's true; it does have all the elements of an awesome Christmas story.

Barbara Briggs Ward's descriptions of the characters and the settings are very

detailed and allow you to paint vivid pictures in your mind. The story

definitely is centered around a Christmas and winter them. You almost feel as

if you are with Abbey…

Meet the real Inspector Hound

English playwright Tom Stoppard, his plays performed more than the plays of any other dramatist of his generation – and Stoppard’s still writing – is a fascinating guy. He was a newspaperman and a drama critic before he sat down to write his first play in 1960.

I became aware of him when I saw a production of his play, “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.”

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are minor characters in Shakespeare’s… Continue

Crime trods the boards

Your community theater may be betting, as two near me are this season, that crime pays, that you and I will buy tickets and park ourselves in soft seats to see crimes committed on stage and solved.

But can we solve the crime before the detective does . . . or the amateur sleuth does?

That’s the game.

The proof that we theater goers love a mystery is right there in Agatha Chistie’s “The Mousetrap”. That stage play first hit… Continue

Carla Rene' The Gaslight Journal

When I got this I didn’t know what to expect. The last time I read something by this author it was a series of digital shorts put together: they were cute and humorous. Please feel free to go back through our archives for

that. Today though, we are featuring a full length feature by Carla Rene’ that

is almost a 180 degree turn from that, a Christmas story, The Gaslight Journal.

Here is the synopsis of the novel:”

The Last Word

I got the word that the trip I had planned for months was cancelled just 3 days before the departure date. I was momentarily furious and the travel folks allowed me to vent a bit. What could have evolved into a major argument dissolved quickly thanks to their proper attitude. They reminded me that there is a way to always get the last word in: Apologize.

Lori Armstrong No Mercy

I am a little late in discovering this novel; it was suggested by a reader of our blog, Gelati’s Scoop. I am glad they made the suggestion. Let’s get right to the pertinent information on the novel, first

Oliver North American Hereos in Special Operations

Big week and big day here @ The Scoop. We are leading off the day with a book that reveals some amazing real life heroes, humanizes them, describes them as real people, and then details the moments of true valor they

had. It is hard not to turn the pages in this book and not have a sense of awe

at the sacrifices these men and women make on a daily basis so we can enjoy the

types of freedoms that we have as Americans. I want to share a few things from
