My novel, 'Lucid', received a great review and 4 out of 5 stars on the Manic Readers website!

Her best friend, Alex, and Alex’s boyfriend, Silas, begin talking about dreams and their significance on one such occasion. Over the next few days, Sloane’s dreams become more and more detailed and disturbing. She enlists the aid of her friends in dispelling her belief… Continue

Lucid – A Mystery Novel

Lucid by Katherine Angela Yeboah

Sloane Solomon is a beautiful, young college student who lives in the vibrant city of L.A. She first hears about ‘lucid dreaming’ from a friend, who intrigues her with descriptions of dreams so lifelike, so vivid, so unlike any she has ever had before. And when he explains how she can achieve them, by focusing on her hands when she suspects she may be dreaming, Sloane can’t wait to give it a go.

Sure enough, her first lucid… Continue

In for the Kit, in for the Kaboodle

Some have mentioned using smashwords, the e-book formatter to publish the works you own outright. Looked into this, and hey, it's not a bad sounding deal. If e-books are the wunderkund of the new publishing empire, might as well jump in with both feet.

Especially if you can believe the royalties they offer you.

So I own the kit and kaboodle of Roland of the High Crags: Evil Arises. You can download it for only seven bucks. Yeah, yeah . . . it's the fantasy novel of… Continue

The Twist that Won't

I had a twist I wanted to add at the end of my WIP, but it was giving me trouble. I'd worked out most of it, but I wanted a delay in one plot event (a murder...what a surprise) that would create some irony and a more satisfying conclusion. I was ranting about it at the breakfast table, and my husband, who never reads my stuff or offers an opinion, listened, knowing it was important to me because I've hardly left my office for three days.

His comment? "You're making it too… Continue

LAST minute book push

This is the time of year that I increase my marketing activity, because this is when people are looking for gift ideas and I don’t want them to forget how much their friends and family love good books. Web sites and e-mails are fine, but nothing takes the place of being out in public. I go to the readers… Continue

A REVIEW FOR CROSSROADS FROM MBR & HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL

MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW 5.0 out of 5 stars

A fascinating and entertaining story of cold war espionage, highly recommended, December 11, 2009

By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews

Double crossing, triple crossing, quadruple crossings are not things that were unheard of in the espionage time of the Cold War. "Crossroads" is a story of cold war espionage as Tallman distrusts the newest defector to the agency, former soviet spy Mikhail. When new… Continue

Well I'll be damn . . . .

After over a year being on the market . . . my police-procedural novel featuring two homicide detecives Turner Hahn and Frank Morales, entitled Murderous Passions, finally got an Amazon ranking.

For about a year its been riding slightly about the 630,000 mark on the Barnes&Noble web sites.

Tonight, Amazon.com started charting it at 135,000.

Of course the book will plunge down into the millions in a matter of days (if not hours). But to see it finally… Continue

'TIS THE SEASON?

Six days ago, I was planning Christmas. I put a wreath on the door. I put a pretty flag out to sway in the wind. That's as far as I got. I tripped in my kitchen and took the impact on my left shoulder.

But still, I'm thankful. It could have been much worse. The counter was only inches away from my head. I live alone and don't encourage visitors, so I might have sprawled there indefinitely. My neighbors are not nosy.

Now that I'm able to type with both hands again, I… Continue

The Tide Goes out, the Tide Comes In

I was so proud of myself. Twenty books that I knew I’d never read again, their only reason for existence in my office to take up shelf space that could be used for books I will read again, or at least want to keep. This afternoon I boxed up all that excess and took it to the local thrift store, where someone could at least get some value for them. My good deed for the day.

Then I got to wondering what kinds of books a thrift store carries. Parked the car and went in the front… Continue

About those Amazon reviewers . . .

they will surprise you! I liked this one well enough to share. Clearly, the reviewer is sufficiently familiar with the historical background to know what he/she is talking about.

DIY Book Scanners Turn Your Books Into Bytes

http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2009/12/diy-book-scanner/

From the Article:

"A DIY book scanner also raises questions of piracy and copyright. The basic question being: Do you really own a book in all its forms when you buy a book?

At the same time, ironically, the DIY book scanner is helping new create new tools to make copyright information more accessible. Tulane… Continue

Coming up for air.....

I haven't posted much the last few days because I've been frantically scribbling the final pages of the new manuscript, typing them, and getting the first draft out of the computer. Today I edited and did some revision on the first 50 pages, and the excitement I'm feeling over these pages is coming out my ears.

I don't care for my title, but I can fix that later. I'm trying to a Ludlum-style "The [noun] [proper noun]" style, but it's tough. Right now I have "The Lassen Agenda" which… Continue

The Insidious Effects of British and Irish Crime Fiction

(Also posted on One Bite at a Time.)

I read a lot of British and Irish crime fiction and enjoy it. Ray Banks, Mark Billingham, Ken Bruen, Declan Burke, John Connolly, Allan Guthrie, Declan Hughes, Simon Kernick, Val McDermid, and Adrian McKinty come to mind—alphabetically—off the top of my head; I’m sure I missed a couple. (Stuart Neville’s Ghosts of Belfast on my TBR pile, for example.) Right now I there are probably more… Continue
