Once again the time is drawing near for the Las Vegas Writers Conference. Unfortunately I won’t be able to attend this year, but that doesn’t stop me from singing its praises and telling everyone about it.
I still credit the first one I attended in 2005 as a career changer. Check out today's EXAMINER SPOTLIGHT. I talk about the conference and what I've gained personally from previous ones.…

I'm through with a project that started more than three years ago, Bum's Rush. I have confidence in the book. So why am I self publishing? Simple, I don't want the aggravation of waiting. Waiting for an agent, waiting for a publisher to listen to the agent, waiting for all the proofing, when I'm perfectly capable of doing it myself. I guess you might think I'm lazy. If that's your thinking, then, yes, I am. So I'm using Amazon, Kindle, Smashbook, and LuLu. In fact, Is out on everything but…

Research is always a tricky thing. I've heard different, if not competing views, from almost every writer with whom I discuss this subject. Some advocate for only internet using the Google approach. I'm not the head cheerleader of this movement, but I will say that you can find a lot of info on virtually every subject. Also with Google's satellites and imaging, Google also makes it easy to visit about anywhere without leaving the comfort, or the shackles, of your writing sanctuary. I…

The funny thing about newly re-released novels on Kindle and E-Book is that you can dust off some pretty tasty reviews that went largely unnoticed when the big ass publisher decided to remainder the book for one corporate reason or another...So here is a stellar review on my new release…

One question I have struggled with and, likely will continue to just be befuddled about, is when do you share what you have written. Particularly when the writing is going to be fiction length.
I struggled with this concept while writing The Trust. Not knowing the protocol - translate that I just had no clue when to let others read what I had written - when I finished the first draft of the Prologue to The Trust, I decided to have another set of eyes look over my efforts.
Not a…
I'm sure that many of you received this same request, but a UK-based group called Circalit contacted me to spread the word about their agent competition.
http://www.circalit.com/projects/competitions/crime
They are looking specifically for crime stories and the literary agency involved is A.P. Watt, which is apparently well-esteemed. Publishers Weekly also reported on Circalit's latest competition. I don't know…

The weather in Boston has been horrible, and we're in for even more. There will be about three storms this week. Yesterday's snow turned to a freezing, slushy rain which froze over the minute it started to get dark. It's not expected to get above freezing today, which means I'll probably be a shut-in until tomorrow. Friday will be warmer, then we'll get another storm on Saturday.
And, I've also had to reschedule the first meeting of…

The number of publishing options available to authors has exploded in the last decade. About three years ago, a company called Smashwords helped establish the ebook phenomenon we see today. I blog about them today on Another Writers Life - http://ascamacho.blogspot.com
