Joe Konrath Quoted in Newsweek

Quoted in the annual books issue of (August 9, 2010):

....“It’s an even playing field for the first time,” says J. A. Konrath, a thriller author (Whiskey Sour) who plans to release all his future novels as self-published Kindle

books. “The gatekeepers have become who they should have been in the

first place: the readers.”…

If you are just putzing around with nothing to do, go over to this site and read my 'Call me Smitty.' Its the story that starts the life of Smitty--my friendly little assassin character.

Why Can't We All Just...Read?

There's been an extended thread on one of my chat groups about whether or not we all should hate THE SWEETNESS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PIE. Some say it's infantile and just wrong. Some say it's great. A few (and I fall into this group although I never get involved in such debates) say, in effect, "Different strokes for different folks." Yeah, like that.

I have hated books that the Reading World lauds to the skies. I have loved books that get little or no notice from said World. Being a big… Continue

Agents Of Treachery Edited with an intro by Otto Penzler

Fourteen short stories written by some of the thriller genre’s best authors: Gayle Lynds, Joseph Finder, Lee Child, David Morell, John Weisman….., are contained in this novel. I am not

sure what it took to get this done, but every page is like gold. I have made a

point on this in a previous post about the digital shorts, this is perfect: A

very nice way to get a little fix of one of your authors before they put out

the main…

Israeli leaders pass buck

The present Israeli government seems to make a specialty of dropping the ball. The only thing the top ministers won’t drop is the buck. They’re very adept at passing that.

Testimony last week revealed the lack of responsibility at the top of the Israeli government. Before a committee investigating a fouled up military operation, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak have both said they take responsibility for the attempted takeover of…

Working on the plot of Inspector Andy Horton crime novel number seven

Having used up tons of scraps of paper (re-cycled from having to print off reams of previous manuscripts) and having almost worn my pencil down to a stub, not to mention making my office look like a waste paper tip, I am now a great deal happier with the plot of the next Andy Horton police procedural marine mystery crime novel, which will be number seven in the series set on the south coast of England around the…

Blast From the Past Tim Dorsey Gator A-Go-Go

Serge Storm is as good an offbeat character as they get. How can I categorize Tim Dorsey’s work? It’s action packed, filled with history, incredible narrative, totally humorous, well-constructed, and imaginative in

manner of executions (I mean people), and great covers. I could go on for it

seems hours, days or weeks. I have read all his work and must say I for one

have enjoyed the crazy gonzo ride with Serge and Coleman.

A book you wouldn't know if you weren't reading this

You’ve read family histories. Pretty dry, right?

Not Leslie Huber’s The Journey Takers.

A friend of Leslie, who had read an early draft, handed the manuscript back and asked, “Who am I supposed to be cheering for?”

Georg and Mina Albrecht, Leslie’s Germany ancestors who made the journey to America? Karsti Nilsdotter, Leslie’s great-great-great-great grandmother who came here from… Continue

Digital Short Saturday S.W. Barger Girls Night Out

Every day I go on this world wide web of ours and try to further my limited knowledge of this thing called the digital short; I am constantly amazed. Today I am posting on two different stories, two different

franchises by S.W. Barger that are incredibly fun, good, and quick reads. I

didn’t have to go to the library to pick them out, no delivery person came to

my door with them. And the whole process was interactive to the…

Digital Short Saturday S.W. Barger Meteor 97

Hey it is that time of the week again? This ride so far has been so much fun. The digital short search so far has amazing. The offerings are many and the choices are difficult to make. I have mentioned this in the

past but I am going to have to say it again; I don’t have a Kindle or Nook yet.

If someone wants to send me one, thanks I appreciate it. So how am I reading

these digital shorts? I have been doing it on my laptop, but I could do it just

as…

Mark Twain's autobiography to be in a bookstore near you

In November.

And this will be the unexpurgated edition. In it is everything Twain dictated to his secretary during the last four years of his life. He died in 1910.

Twain specified that the most controversial parts of the manuscript be left out of any printed editions for a century, lest those sections damage Twain’s image or his reputation.

Said he in his instructions back in 1906, “From the first, second, third and fourth… Continue
